Efron’s recent work includes The Greatest Showman and Firestarter.
The two will reunite in Netflix’s romantic comedy, per Deadline. The film is yet to have a title but was recently greenlit after Netflix bought the script from writer Carrie Solomon. Early plot details suggest “a surprising romance which kicks off comic consequences for a young woman, her mother and her movie star boss as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity.” The yet-untitled film also lacks a release date but is set to start shooting later this year. The film will also star Joey King (The Kissing Booth, The Conjuring). Richard LaGravenese, writer of Behind the Candelabra, takes the director’s seat.
Though little is known about this Netflix film besides the vague plot synopsis, even this glimpse at the team behind it seems promising. Though Efron broke out into stardom through the High School Musical films, the actor has since demonstrated his comedic chops in movies like Baywatch and Neighbors. Kidman is one of the most highly-decorated working actresses, receiving 5 Oscar nominations and grand praise for numerous other roles. A decade after they dueted in The Paperboy, it will be exciting to see Kidman and Efron reunite again for this Netflix comedy.
