WARNING: Contains Spoilers for NIGHTWING #124!
Robin. And no, it’s not one of the past or present Boy Wonders stepping up as Dick Grayson’s sidekick. The situation is far more complicated, involving a gun, a Nightwing-inspired patch, and a rabbit-loving orphan. Things are about to get seriously wild for Dick Grayson.
This moment is particularly epic because Bryce perfectly embodies the Robin spirit...
Readers of Dan Watters and Dexter Soy’s Nightwing run know that Dick has been working closely with Blüdhaven’s gangs to try to save them from police brutality and prevent chaos. In particular, he's been collaborating with The Teddies, a gang known for their animal-themed costumes, whose are mostly minors—including a young boy named Bryce, who recently witnessed his brother being gunned down by the police.
To help Bryce cope, Nightwing gave him a rabbit he had rescued from the villainous Olivia Pearce. Since then, Bryce has become one of Nightwing’s biggest ers. However, Nightwing #124 reveals that Bryce is ready to take things a step further—he’s ready to become Nightwing’s official partner.
Did Nightwing Just Get His Own Robin?!
Cover E 1:25 Amancay Nahuelpan Variant for Nightwing #124 (2025)
Nightwing #124 finds Dick battling Olivia Pearce’s overpowered Spheric Solutions weapons as she recklessly unleashes them on the city’s gangs. However, the final two pages reveal that Nightwing wasn’t fighting alone. After being thrown by one of the weapons, Dick recovers to find Bryce standing beside him, holding a smoking gun—implying that the young boy had been shooting, and successfully, at the weaponized threats Dick had been facing. What truly makes this a defining “Robin” moment, though, is that Bryce is sporting a Nightwing-inspired patch on his jacket while confidently referring to Dick as “boss.”

Nightwing Is Going Full Anti-Hero as DC Comics Opens the Door for Batman's Protege to Kill Superheroes
Dick is walking the line between heroism and moral compromise, leaving fans to wonder how far he'll go with his “the ends justify the means” approach.
This moment is particularly epic because Bryce perfectly embodies the Robin spirit by choosing—without asking—to be Nightwing’s partner. His determination mirrors how other Robins, especially Tim Drake, often forced their way into becoming Batman’s sidekick. The parallels don’t stop there either, as Bryce also fits the classic Robin archetype: a light-eyed, dark-haired orphan. Since the issue ends immediately after Bryce declares himself Nightwing’s sidekick, fans are left wondering how Dick will react. It remains to be seen whether he will accept Bryce as his new partner.
Someone Call Red Hood; He’s Going to LOVE Nightwing’s New Sidekick

What makes Bryce particularly stand out is that the tween is wielding a gun—something decidedly un-Robin-like and more fitting for a child aspiring to be Red Hood’s sidekick rather than Nightwing’s. However, the gun serves its purpose by making Bryce immediately stand out and setting the stage for what could be an epic “Robin” origin story. Bryce is also notable because, if Dick chooses to take him on as his partner, he would technically be Nightwing’s first sidekick in mainstream continuity. When Damian partnered with Dick, Dick was wearing the mantle of Batman, not operating as Nightwing. This means DC may have just given Nightwing his first true sidekick.
