an explosive reveal, the Switch 2 quickly became the most coveted piece of gaming hardware of the year, with a release date scheduled for June 5. They've already been subject to delays and rumors of price changes, but, after a slight change in plans, Switch 2 preorders will soon be available in the US and Canada.
So Switch 2 preorders are now going ahead more or less as planned, albeit with a slightly different date. Here's everything you need to know about getting your hands on the much-anticipated console, including a complete guide to where to buy.
Switch 2 Preorders Begin In The U.S. On April 24, 2025
When You Can Preorder The Switch 2
In the US and Canada, Switch 2 preorders are now scheduled to begin on April 24, 2025. They'll be available from most online retailers beginning at 12 AM ET on April 24 (9 PM PT on April 23) - although GameStop preorders will arrive a little later, starting at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT on April 24.

The Switch 2 Pro Controller Has This Major Improvement From The First
The Switch 2 Pro Controller looks almost identical to its predecessor – except for the C button – but has a major improvement to its battery.
This represents a delay of just under two weeks from the originally planned date of April 9. Shortly after the console was announced, Switch 2 preorders would go ahead with higher prices for certain accessories (though not for the console or its games). Prices will be the same at all retailers - $449.99 USD for the console, and $499.99 for the bundle with Mario Kart World.

Where To Buy The Switch 2
The following are all the major US retailers offering Switch 2 preorders. Click on the links to be taken directly to product listings for the Switch 2; you can bookmark these pages if you want to visit them directly as soon as the consoles become available.
Do note that different retailers may have different procedures for preordering. Best Buy, for example, may need to your before you're allowed to add the item to your cart. I'd recommend g up for (and g in to) an on as many of these sites as possible ahead of the preorder - that'll speed up the process, and save you some time on entering your payment information and shipping address. It's also worth noting that other retailers, including Amazon, may have preorders available on April 24, but haven't announced them in advance.
During the PS5 launch, some retailers would sell out in seconds, only to add a new crop of consoles a few minutes later; if you find the Switch 2 out of stock, try waiting 10 minutes, then refreshing.
With that, you should have everything you need to get your hands on a Switch 2, but of course, there's no guarantee you'll get one. Although Nintendo is trying to stop scalpers, and many retailers are trying to avoid a repeat of the PS5 availability debacle, the Switch 2 is a hot-ticket item, and will inevitably sell out quickly. You'll need to be ready at exactly midnight ET on April 24 - along with a little luck - to make sure you can secure your Nintendo Switch 2.
