The announcement of the Nintendo Switch's successor is drawing ever closer and if insider reports are to be believed, an update may come sooner rather than later. Nintendo kicked off 2024 with a bang by confirming that it will finally reveal the so-called Switch 2 before the end of the financial year, giving the company until March 2025 to part the curtain on the long-awaited console. With only six months left, rumors are once again swirling that a major announcement could be in the works for as early as September 2024.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), video game journalist, insider, and reputable source Christopher Dring writes that he's heard "whispers" about "something" related to the Switch 2 happening this month.
No other details were provided but given Dring's track record and connections within the industry, there's a chance he could be correct. Of course, given the nature of such a claim, it's recommended that enthusiasts take the report with a grain of salt; it's never confirmed until Nintendo itself provides an update.
What Do We Know About The Nintendo Switch 2?
A Console Shrouded In Rumors
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a hotly-anticipated piece of hardware but when it comes to specifics, the company has shed precious little light on the device. Rumors abound that the Switch 2 will be able to output an upscaled 4K resolution in docked mode while also boasting a bigger battery to better players who prefer using the console in handheld mode. Some of the more prolific reports suggest that the upgraded model will feature an 8-inch OLED screen, an inch bigger than the current OLED Switch.
As far as software is concerned, there's even more speculation regarding what players can expect to find on the Switch 2. The next Pokémon Legends game, Z-A, is rumored to be a launch title for the new console while championed a strong first-party line-up in a console's early years.

10 Best Nintendo Switch Games Of 2024 (So Far)
The Nintendo Switch has had a number of amazing games release for it in 2024, from sprawling mech-based JRPGs and strategy games to Yakuza life sims.
As for when the Nintendo Switch is slated to arrive, the jury is still out regarding the plan. The company may follow the trajectory of the original Switch which was announced in October 2016 before launching in the first quarter of 2017. If that strategy remains in place, the device could be unveiled in the next few months to ensure that it hits shelves in early 2025, but this is pure speculation.
