Prominent Nintendo insiders are hinting that Switch 2 console. Furthermore, it could be one of the launch titles for the new system, arriving on the Switch successor with some much-needed upgrades.

The first hint of this came from leaker Midori on X (formerly Twitter), who is known to have good intel within the online community. In the initial post, they pointed out that Nintendo was working on a project with the codename “U-King-O.” They stated that this could possibly be something tied to the next Nintendo console or even be its codename.

However, then, Nintendo insider Stealth quoted the tweet and revealed that U-King was the name for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, putting in speculation that it could be an upgraded version of the game coming to the Switch 2.

Stealth further stated that it could be upgraded via not just the visuals, but by bundling in the two-part DLC package that Breath of the Wild received after its 2017 release on the Nintendo Switch.

One Year Later, How Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Legacy Compares To BOTW's

It's been one year since the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was critically praised. Why don't we talk about it like BotW?

An Enhanced Port On Switch 2 Could Be BOTW's Definitive Edition

The first of two BOTW DLC expansions was The Master Trials, where players could go through a challenging dungeon to unlock the full power of the Master Sword. It also added the Hero’s Path Mode, where players could see where they traveled previously, and even a Master Mode to increase the difficulty of the game’s monsters. While Hero's Path was carried over to the Purah Pad in Tears of the Kingdom, Master Mode was not.

The second part of the DLC contained The Champions' Ballad, which gave Link revamped boss fights – like that against Thunderblight Ganon – and allowed him to learn even more about the four Champions that perished in the initial strike of Calamity Ganon. Players who finished the content could also claim the Master Cycle Zero, a special ride that one could use to travel across Hyrule at impressive speed. Reviews of the DLC praised the content and noted that it added even more for Zelda fans to enjoy in an already legendary title.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed that Breath of the Wild will receive a port or remaster, but there is a precedent for this happening. When the Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came within the first two months. The racer from the Wii U came with not only upgraded graphics but also all the DLC that came post-launch, including new tracks, special crossovers, and new drivers like the Inklings and Link. That title would become not only the best-selling Nintendo Switch title, but also the best-selling Nintendo game of all time. Thus, Nintendo could try to repeat history with the Switch 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
