The Nintendo Switch has now sured the Nintendo DS in US sales, making it the second-highest sold console in US history. The Switch has been met with constant success ever since its launch. At the rate it's going, it’s only a matter of time before the sales overtake the Nintendo Wii to become the best-selling console of all time.
Last month saw a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is continuing to remain one of the Switch’s best-selling titles, it’s not entirely surprising that another new Mario game on the Switch would prove to be a system seller.
Video game industry advisor Playstation 5 is currently the “fastest-selling hardware platform in U.S. history,” with it being the second-highest selling console for the month right behind the Switch.
Portable systems have always been Nintendo’s top-selling systems. The Nintendo DS is still one of the best-selling consoles to date, and the 3DS isn’t that far behind. The Wii remains Nintendo’s best-selling nonportable console, yet that success didn’t carry over to its successor, the Wii U. But the Switch has helped put Nintendo back in the spotlight after the Wii U’s failure thanks to its console/portable hybrid ability.
The Switch has recently ed its fourth-year anniversary, and ever since its launch in 2017 its sales figures have only grown bigger. These numbers will no doubt continue to grow as time goes on, and there’s a possibility that it could eventually overtake the Nintendo Wii in due time. But even if it doesn’t, the sales figures it has now is a testament to how successful the Switch is with its player base. Sales could also have another spike in success if the many rumors of the Nintendo Switch Pro turn out to be true. With how successful the console/portable hybrid concept has been, one has to wonder where Nintendo can go after the success of the Nintendo Switch?
