The Super Mario 3D All-Stars on the Switch alongside other announcements including the port of Super Mario 3D World on the console.
While Super Mario 3D World was initially released on the Wii U back in 2013, Bowser’s Fury is completely new content created for the game’s release on the Switch. Nintendo recently revealed that Bowser’s Fury will be set on an island called Lake Lapcat where Mario teams up with Bowser Jr. to defeat Bowser, who has transformed into a fiery giant version of himself called Fury Bowser. The game will feature online co-op multiplayer and allow players to take control of Mario and Bowser Jr.
Nintendo of America showed off the new Easter egg that’s been added to the Nintendo Switch eShop on Twitter, which shows Cat Mario appearing in the digital store’s loading screen. This is in addition to the 8-bit Mario and Super Mario 64 Mario that may also appear during loading screens, both of which were added last year alongside the current Super Mario-themed eShop design launched when Super Mario 3D All-Stars was released. The eShop theme and special loading screens are said to last until the end of Mario’s 35th anniversary celebration on March 31, 2021.
Cat Mario is a form that was introduced in Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U. In the game, the form was accessible by using a Super Bell and gives the the ability to climb walls as well as pounce or claw at enemies. The form isn’t limited to Mario though as other characters in the series have been given their own cat forms, such as Bowser who turns into Meowser at the end of Super Mario 3D World or Cat Peach in Mario Kart 8. Nintendo is also releasing Cat Mario and Cat Peach Amiibos alongside Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
Nintendo is definitely making an effort to promote Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as its release date comes closer and the addition of the Cat Mario Easter egg on the Nintendo Switch eShop is a pretty endearing way to promote one of the series’ most recent and most adorable power ups.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch on February 12, 2021.
