sured its handheld predecessor, the 3DS, in all-time sales. The 3DS released back in 2011, and it sold 75.94 million units in its lifetime. The Switch is approximately halfway through its lifetime (it's been out for less than four years), and it has sold 79.87 million units to date. Simply put, the Switch is absolutely crushing it in of sales.

There has also been wide speculation surrounding the rumored Switch Pro. Although the President of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, has dismissed those rumors, some Nintendo has said that it's not going to arrive in the near future.

Although a Switch Pro would be exciting, Nintendo has shared its 2021 release calendar, and it is far from exciting. There are only three Nintendo titles with confirmed release dates. Those are Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Feb. 12, Bravely Default II on Feb. 26, and New Pokémon Snap on April 30. Several other games are listed, but they are all marked as TBA. These games are Bayonetta 3Metroid Prime 4, and the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The latter two titles are specifically listed as "temp." This information comes from Nintendo's most recent financial report.

Judging from the list of confirmed titles for this year, this is fairly disappointing. It's not that Nintendo was expected to announce new games through a financial report (that would simply be poor marketing), but seeing all of the company's confirmed games for this year listed out really shows how lackluster Nintendo's year is looking thus far. These are all likely excellent titles worth looking forward to, but where there is plenty of quality, there is not much quantity at all.

It should be mentioned, however, that Nintendo is probably working on a host of titles that are currently unannounced. No one truly knows what else Nintendo could be working on at the moment, but it feels pretty safe to assume that Metroid Prime 4, and perhaps even the sequel for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, won't be arriving this year.
