With Nioh's protagonist, in favor of a new adventure starring a player-created character.
Team Ninja recently made it clear that Nioh 2 will count as the last entry in the franchise, but the acclaimed action-RPG brand isn't going out without a bang. In addition to developing story DLC following the sequel's release, the studio has also been hard at work on remastering both Nioh installments. Nioh Remastered - The Complete Edition and Nioh 2 Remastered - The Complete Edition are slated to land on PlayStation 5 later this week, with each title's base game and DLC included in their respective packages.
In preparing for Nioh 2's impending PS5 launch, save transfers for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. In Nioh 2, this functionality will allow players to transfer saves from PS5 back to PS4, too. The Trophies attached to save files won't work as they do for Spider-Man Remastered, though. Team Ninja's patch notes explain that: "Trophies are handled differently in the PS5 and PS4 versions." However, Trophies that are difficult to earn again will automatically unlock once save date is loaded. Patch 1.24 additionally introduces a host of bug fixes and gameplay-related adjustments.
That Team Ninja is tackling cross-saves ahead of the PS5 release seems a boon for all players. For context, this same functionality didn't exist between Spider-Man and Spider-Man Remastered until weeks after the latter's arrival. Meanwhile, there are third-party titles that don't allow for the transfer of save data at all, such as DIRT 5.
Though the studio is sunsetting its work on Nioh for the time being, there's currently no word on what Team Ninja plans to tackle next. Fans are likely to learn what the crew has up its sleeve soon enough, however. Earlier this year, studio producer Fumihiko Yasuda said Team Ninja would announce multiple titles in 2021.
Nioh 2 is out now on PlayStation 4, and will make its way to PC and PlayStation 5 on February 5.
