No Man's Sky's newest update, the best part is that it’s totally free!
No Man’s Sky update 3.0, otherwise known as No Man’s Sky: Origins, has made the game a substantially new experience by adding features that players have been asking for since release. While past updates have added a bunch to the overall package, Origins seems to be the one that really brings everything full circle and delivers on the vision that players had all those years ago.
There is no better time for past players to return and for new players to grab their friends and embark on the infinite journey of a lifetime. Here’s all of the major updates in No Man’s Sky: Origins. The full patch notes for this update are massive and can be found on the game’s website.
New Planets, Stars, and Landscapes In No Man’s Sky: Origins
One of the major additions to the game is the simple inclusion of even more planets. Systems that players occupy and ones that have yet to be discovered now come complete with new planets to explore. On top of that, all new systems have been created and filled with varieties of stars. There can now be more than one star in a single system. These new systems in No Man's Sky are home to all sorts of special discoveries.
The terrain of planets has also been dramatically altered. Planetary terrain has grown in scale to the point where mountains and cliff faces are no longer a rarity. Planets better mimic our natural world instead of being relatively flat, and trees and other natural structures may now tower over players’ heads. Each planet feels truly unique rather than the same lumpy terrain with different colors of trees.
New Biomes and Natural Landmarks In No Man's Sky
The game now features Marshland biomes, volcanoes and even alien infestations. There are hundreds of brand new plants to harvest and catalog. Some No Man's Sky planets will be infected with dangerous growths that spread through the terrain. Players should be cautious when exploring such places in the universe. Keep in mind that previously occupied planets will not be altered. Players can expect to return to their bases in No Man's Sky after the Origins update without any problems.
All New Creatures In No Man's Sky
No Man's Sky's algorithm has been majorly adjusted to produce millions of new creatures across the universe. These creatures now behave more realistically and can be found travelling together in groups. Underwater and aerial mobs have been improved as well. Their size has increased and flying animals now fly closer to the ground.
Insects and wild robots have been added to the game. Giant flying bugs can now be found on certain planets. Some of them are dangerous, while others will go on about their business. Wild Robots are the same, but exhibit slightly different behavioral characteristics. There are also finally sand worms in No Man's Sky! The colossal creature type that players have wanted since release is finally in the game on select planets. Players must watch their step while travelling the surface of desert planets out of fear of these enormous threats.
New People, Places, and Discoveries In No Man's Sky
Discovering new planets is easier than ever. The Mission Log now provides more detailed information about planets and the systems they can be found in. The log will also aid players in discovering all of the life that resides on the planet. Giant archival buildings have been erected throughout the galaxy. Players can visit these hubs of culture, interact with the aliens that reside there and learn more about the universe. There are now more detailed literary histories available in the archives for players to read and learn from.
NPCs will also now land on the planet's surface in No Man's Sky. These NPCs can be spoken to and traded with just as they can on bases, Trading Outposts, and Anomalies. There are also Scrap Dealers who will trade Pugneum for their own special items.
New Planetary Weather Systems In No Man's Sky
Players must prepare themselves for unique weather events on planets. There are now lightning storms, fire storms, meteor showers, tornadoes, and Gravitational Anomalies. These weather events can be lethal, so don't get stuck in them. Clouds on planets are now more realistic and will pile in and out of the sky before and after storms. Cloud coverage is now viewable from off-planet as well.
Storms in No Man's Sky now provide unique effects to the player, rather than only being negative. Jetpacks will work better during fire storms, weapons won't overheat as quickly during a blizzard, and players can sprint further on toxic planets due to their suits' gas filtration system.
New Crafting Items and Devices In No Man's Sky
New items have been added to No Man's Sky, along with new crafting possibilities. Commonly used items have been reduced in size to aid in inventory space, and many items can be stacked higher than usual. New resource caches can be found underground as well. Multi-Tools have been upgraded and now can be fitted with even more technology slots. Portals have had their interference lifted all together, meaning players who have unlocked Ancient Portals can now travel freely.
Quality of Life Improvements In No Man's Sky
The interface has received a full overhaul. Menus are now more aesthetically pleasing and are easier to navigate than ever before. Teleporters in No Man's Sky now feature pictures of where the player wants to go rather than just a list of names. The Discovery Menu is now easier to use and allows players to hide planets and discoveries they have already seen. This cuts down on clutter quite a bit. Photo Mode has been revamped, and now features a fresh suite of filters to experiment with. Taking precise photos is now easier than ever.
Improved Graphics in No Man's Sky
Graphics across the board have been improved, especially on PC versions of No Man's Sky. The "Ultra" setting on PC has been improved, allowing players to experience the universe in greater detail. The lighting engine has been tweaked to allow for more diversity of colors on planets. Dead moons now look and feel distinct from vibrant planets and the sun over the horizon can be blinding.
No Man's Sky: Origins has added many, many new things for players to enjoy. The game feels more complete than ever, and Hello Games has promised to continue developing the game even further from here. There has never been a better time to hop behind the controls of an S Class Starship and see the galaxy in all its glory.
