Netflix’s Nobody Wants This season 2 has wrapped filming (with Jackie Tohn sharing BTS photos!), fans can start looking ahead to the new season, which is expected to be released around September 2025.

I can't wait to see how Joanne and Noah navigate their relationship now that their careers are pulling them in opposite directions. Most of the attention from fans and the narrative goes towards how Joanne will impact Noah's job prospects and family. It's unclear, based on Nobody Wants This season 1's ending, how their relationship will affect the Head Rabbi promotion that he agreed to pursue. However, Joanne deserves just as much attention when it comes to her podcasting career. Luckily, two essential returning ing characters will fix the issue by giving Joanne the and attention that she needs.

Ashley & Ryann Are The Only ing Characters On Joanne's Side

As much as I love Nobody Wants This, season 1 has one big problem – it feels unbalanced. Most of the main and ing characters in Nobody Wants This, except for Morgan, are Noah’s friends and family. Esther and Sasha are both main characters in the story, and they connect to Noah. The ing characters Miriam, Rebecca, Rabbi Cohen, and Rabbi Shira have a connection to him as well. Joanne tries to develop a relationship with his colleagues, his friends, and their wives. She tries really hard to his world and changes parts of herself to fit into his culture.

Unfortunately, he spends less time with her friends. He listens to her podcast to try to understand her job and perspective, but he doesn’t give much thought to how he fits in her world. Even Joanne’s parents have a significantly smaller role than Noah’s parents. In a way, the decision to focus on Noah’s family and friends makes sense because his community is much more hesitant of Joanne, while Joanne’s secular community is more willing to accept Noah (although some of them really don’t understand Judaism). There’s less conflict on her side of the relationship.

Ultimately, the imbalance means Nobody Wants This season 2 bringing back the few ing characters on Joanne’s side is extremely important. Ashley and Ryann help balance out the cast so that Noah and Joanne are both represented as main characters rather than the story being entirely one-sided. Additionally, the duo coming back in the second season means that Noah and Joanne might spend some more time with her social circle, too.

Joanne Will Need Her Friends To Ground Her As She Explores Converting To Judaism In Nobody Wants This

Possibly Converting Will Be A Big Decision For Joanne Now That She Knows The Stakes

Although they were significant before, Joanne’s friendships will be even more important in Nobody Wants This season 2 as she’s giving more serious consideration to whether or not she could ever be ready to convert. After her conversation with Rebecca, she now understands what being the Rabbi’s girlfriend or wife would mean. It’s a lot of responsibility. She doesn’t seem entirely closed off to the idea of converting one day, but she knows that she isn’t there yet. That means she needs people outside the situation to talk to about her thoughts and feelings.

Since the Netflix rom-com is semi-autobiographical (via Y! Entertainment), I expect that Joanne will eventually convert, like the creator of the show (though that's not a guaranteed ending for the character). I’m not sure that decision will come by the end of Nobody Wants This season 2 with how far she has to go in learning about Judaism and examining her own beliefs.

Joanne might also face more pressure to convert now that Noah has agreed to pursue the Head Rabbi job at the end of Nobody Wants This season 1, which could influence her feelings on the matter. Unfortunately, Noah and Joanne told other people about the decision at Miriam’s Bat Mitzvah, making it even harder to walk back. On the off chance that people don’t pressure her to convert, she will almost definitely face judgment from the Roklovs and other of the temple for having changed her mind about converting.

Noah will her journey and stand up for her like he did with Bina. However, he’ll be in a very difficult position, too, since he needs social approval to get the Head Rabbi job. He can’t be the only one on her side. Joanne’s friends and her sister can provide her with much-needed . Ashley especially does a good job of being a voice of reason and a sounding board. Meanwhile, Ryann helps connect Joanne to who she has been leading up to meeting Noah. They could both be great anchors for Joanne in Nobody Wants This season 2.

Nobody Wants This Season 2 Will Be Just As Funny As The First Season

As much as Nobody Wants This is a romance about two people from different worlds falling in love, it’s also a fantastic comedy. Joanne and Noah have a great repartee, bouncing off each other perfectly. Aside from Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, other parts of the cast are packed with fantastic comedians. On Noah’s side, Jackie Tohn’s Esther and Timothy Simons’s Sasha keep the laughs coming. As I mentioned in my op-ed about Sasha last year, I love Esther, and I’m an unapologetic Sasha hater. However, both of them are hilarious and guaranteed to come back in season 2.

Jack Burditt acted as showrunner for Nobody Wants This season 1, but Girls' alums Jenny Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan will take over as co-showrunners in season 2.

On Joanne’s side, Justine Lupe’s Morgan is funny and was a guaranteed returning cast member. She’s Joanne’s sister and a main character. Additionally, Sherry Cola’s Ashley and D’Arcy Carden’s Ryann have impeccable wit and comedic timing. Often, they steal the scenes from the other characters because they’re just so great in their roles.

Since Ashley and Ryann aren’t main characters or family of Joanne, they weren’t guaranteed to return. Ashley is more narratively important than Ryann since she’s the podcast agent, but theoretically, they could have cut both of them without too much effort. The fact that the Netflix show is bringing back Cola and Carden hints that the show will maintain Nobody Wants This’ incredible humor going into season 2.
