Jordan Peele’s next horror project is Get Out’s greatness. Jordan Peele’s career started as a comedy actor, but in recent years, he has successfully transitioned from working in front of the camera to behind it and in the horror genre. Peele’s work as a horror writer and director has been a critical and commercial success, so it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of anticipation around his new projects, as he has also brought freshness to a genre that is currently packed with reboots, remakes, sequels, and more.

Peele’s first horror movie was The Twilight Zone, and he’s now back with a new horror movie simply titled Nope. Although it’s scheduled for a July 22, 2022 release, plot details about Nope are still being kept under wraps and only some hints have been revealed, so there’s a lot of expectation around Nope and a lot of fan theories as well, and it’s already repeating one of the things that made Get Out so great.

Nope will take viewers to Haywood Ranch, in California, owned by Jill (Keke Palmer) and James Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya). Along with the residents of this isolated town, Jill and James will witness a mysterious and abnormal supernatural event in what Peele has described as an “otherwordly confrontation”. Nope reunites Peele with Kaluuya, the lead actor of Get Out, and through him, Nope is repeating a big part of Get Out’s success, as Kaluuya’s performance was key to making Get Out one of the best horror movies of the decade.

Daniel Kaluuya in Nope

Get Out followed Chris Washington (Kaluuya), a young black man dating Peele shared that he wrote Nope with Kaluuya in mind, describing his character as a “humble man destined for an epic and otherwordly confrontation”. Peele added that Kaluuya’s craft is “on a different level” and that it’s “his warmth that grounds audiences even during points of absolute madness”.

Just like Kaluuya’s Chris was the audience’s connection to the rest of the story of Get Out, James Haywood will serve as such in Nope, and that can be key in Nope’s success along with the story. As mentioned above, Nope’s plot details are a mystery, but it’s heavily theorized that it’s about an alien invasion, so it’s going to be interesting to see how Kaluuya’s character will lead the audience through a situation like that.
