  • The actor has read the script for the movie and teases that it continues the franchise's tradition of spotlighting intelligence instead of violence.
  • Ruben Fleischer is expected to direct Now You See Me 3, and cast like Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher could return.

Now You See Me 3 gets a promising new filming update from franchise star Jesse Eisenberg. After the success of the first film in 2013, Eisenberg's J. Daniel Atlas and the Four Horsemen returned for Now You See Me 2 in 2016 to pull off yet another heist using the power of illusion. Since the sequel, however, a third film has yet to come to fruition, though one has long been in development.

In a recent interview with filming on Now You See Me 3 will start in the next six months, though a date is not yet set in stone. The actor also reveals that he has now read the script for the new movie, and he confirms it will continue a trend set by the previous two entries. Check out Eisenberg's full comment below:

"Yeah, I did [read the script]. Hopefully it will happen in the next six months. I think it will, it seems like it will. Yeah, it's really great.

"I also agree with you. For me, the thing I love about it so much, having just read the script, it celebrates intelligence and it’s non-violent but exciting, and it's so weird to see that because it sounds so obvious, and it sounds like that would be common, but it's actually quite uncommon to have a movie that's this franchise, this Hollywood-style movie that's really just about teamwork and intelligence, rather than just violence."

What To Expect From Now You See Me 3

Which Cast Could Return?

While no story information has been revealed about Now You See Me 3 just yet, it's likely that the film would feature the return of key from the previous movies' casts. This includes Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney, Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, and Lizzy Caplan as Lula. After playing an important role as one of the Four Horsemen in the original movie, Fisher didn't appear in the sequel due to being pregnant at the time of filming. Now You See Me 3 could bring Fisher back once more.

Morgan Freeman could also return in the third film as Thaddeus Bradley, but Michael Caine's Arthur Tressler may not appear considering Caine has announced his retirement from acting.

It's also been previously revealed that Ruben Fleischer will be the director of Now You See Me 3. Fleischer has worked with Eisenberg on a number of titles in the past, including both Zombieland movies and 30 Minutes or Less. Flesicher stepping into the director's chair would mean that each installment in the franchise is helmed by a different filmmaker, with Louis Leterrier having directed the first film and Jon M. Chu having directed the second.

As seen in the chart above, Now You See Me 2's reviews were noticeably worse than those for the original film from both audiences and critics. The film also performed worse at the box office, though it's $334.9 million box office haul still makes it a success. It's possible that Now You See Me 3 could improve on the previous film both critically and commercially, especially if it manages to recapture the magic of the original. If Eisenberg's prediction ends up being correct and the sequel goes to camera this year, it could end up hitting theaters in 2025.
