Caution: spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3
These are your Princess Leia is taken prisoner by mercenaries working for Imperial inquisitors, "Ben" is forced to become "Obi-Wan" once more. Traveling to the outlaw haven (yup, another one) of Daiyu, Kenobi rescues Leia, but also learns Anakin Skywalker survived their epic lightsaber battle on Mustafar.
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 picks up in the aftermath of that revelation. The ex-Jedi and a young Princess Leia are desperately running from the ruthless Reva, encountering both scorn and kindness from the locals of a distant mining planet. Though an escape route finally emerges, Kenobi's hope is shattered by a face-to-face encounter with Darth Vader, a mini-rematch between master and student, and some fiery Mustafar payback.
Obi-Wan Kenobi's first two episodes were packed with the now-traditional glut of Star Wars Easter eggs and references, including droid cameos and props from 1977. "Part III" continues the nostalgic assault with guest voices, humorous nods, and a big Jedi name-drop. Here are all of the Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 Easter eggs.
Voices From The Star Wars Prequels
Obi-Wan Kenobi "Part III" begins with Ewan McGregor's Jedi experiencing flashbacks to his past. Conveniently enough, these are all moments captured by the Star Wars prequel trilogy. We hear Yoda from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith ("only pain will you find"), Qui-Gon Jinn from Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace ("Obi-Wan, promise me you will train the boy"), and Anakin Skywalker also from Revenge of the Sith ("if you're not with me, then you're my enemy...")
Darth Vader's Throne Room On Mustafar
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 reveals Darth Vader's throne room in his Mustafar castle - the lava planet where Anakin Skywalker "died" and Vader was truly born. This location officially debuted in 2016's Rogue One, but the idea dates back to Star Wars' early days and Ralph McQuarrie's iconic concept art, which established many of the striking design features seen here in 2022.
James Earl Jones Returns As Darth Vader's Voice
Yes, that's James Earl Jones reprising his role as the voice of The Book of Boba Fett, Jones' natural voice is combined with recordings and manipulated to create a near-exact composite replica of his original Vader speech.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Foreshadows Leia's Force Abilities
When Vivien Lyra Blair's precocious young Princess Leia asks Obi-Wan Kenobi what the Force "feels" like, it seems she already possesses an inkling of her Force sensitivity, but isn't quite sure whether it's something special brewing deep within her, or whether Alderaan just needs a new royal chef. Star Wars movies only touched upon Princess Leia's Force abilities in Return of the Jedi and Disney's sequel movies, but Obi-Wan Kenobi is proving there was always something manifesting in Leia.
An R5 Astromech Droid On Mapuzo
As Obi-Wan and Leia disembark from their cargo transport onto the surface of Mapuzo, a pair of droids are busy working in the background. The smaller unit is an R5 astromech unit, and bears the exact same orange-y design as the most famous droid from that line, R5-D4. Otherwise known as "Red," R5-D4 is often wheeled out (literally) as a Star Wars Easter egg, and while the droid on Mapuzo isn't him (probably...), it's a cute tribute.
Obi-Wan Re Anakin In His Prequel Guise
When Obi-Wan Kenobi hallucinates a vision of Anakin Skywalker on Mapuzo, the specter is dressed in the same dark brown cloak costume the fallen Jedi was wearing at the end of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. This is because Kenobi hasn't glimpsed Darth Vader's black armor yet, so can only envision Anakin in his former guise. That'll change soon enough...
Obi-Wan Kenobi Debuts Fortress Inquisitorius
"Part III" marks Obi-Wan Kenobi's first trip to Fortress Inquisitorius - the HQ of Darth Vader's inquisitors when they're not murdering each other and twirling lightsabers. Based on the moon Nur, this imposing building made its Star Wars debut in the Jedi: Fallen Order video game.
TIE Fighters & Imperial Shuttles At Fortress Inquisitorius
As Moses Ingram's Reva strolls through the hangar of Fortress Inquisitorious, several famous Star Wars ships can be spotted behind her - TIE fighters, and the classic gray Lambda shuttle most famously used by Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.
Star Wars Keeps Mocking Stormtrooper Incompetence
Stormtroopers are not very good at their jobs; this much we know. Modern Star Wars has taken great delight in mocking the uselessness of Stormtroopers, and now an Obi-Wan-Kenobi Easter egg continues that tradition. When Obi-Wan and Leia are riding awkwardly with a group of the Empire's white-clad finest, conversation turns toward a Jedi on the loose. With the confidence that only comes from a total lack of self-awareness, one Stormtrooper boldly claims, "We'll find him, we always do." The irony is clear, and viewers needn't look far to find plenty of examples where Stormtroopers didn't find a Jedi they were hunting. The most memorable is when Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker enter Mos Eisley in A New Hope and two Stormtroopers get bamboozled by the former's mind tricks.
Leia & Obi-Wan Reference 2 Cut Star Wars Stories
"Part III" alludes toward two cut Star Wars storyline twists. First, Ewan McGregor's protagonist mentions a biological brother. A Kenobi sibling has never previously been introduced by official Star Wars canon, but George Lucas did initially plan on revealing Owen Lars as Obi-Wan's long-lost brother in Return of the Jedi. Leia then questions whether Obi-Wan is her "real" father, to which the Jedi replies, "I wish I could say that I was." Obi-Wan merely means Leia is a charming kid and any dad would be better than Darth Vader, but it's still a weird thing to say regarding Anakin's wife. The line could be alluding toward the Anakin-Kenobi-Pé love triangle cut from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
