WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4
Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi was living happily on Tatooine, chopping up meat, trading with his Jawa friend, and watching Luke Skywalker grow up from afar. Since his Disney+ adventures began, however, Kenobi has been shot at, insulted by a 10-year-old, and bathed in fire by a man he presumed dead... all before the series' halfway mark.
Obi-Wan Kenobi's struggles continue in "Part IV" as the galaxy's grumpiest Jedi embarks on a dangerous mission into the bowels of Fortress Inquisitorious, hunting the captured Princess Leia. Though the rescue is successful, of course, Kenobi pays a heavy toll, and the threat of Darth Vader still looms large after Reva deviously places a tracker inside LO-LA.
Despite the Jedi's stressful few days, "Part IV" remains packed with Obi-Wan Kenobi Easter eggs and references. From Jedi corpse cameos to direct A New Hope parallels, these are the Star Wars Easter eggs Kenobi brings back as souvenirs from Fortress Inquisitorious.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Dunked In A Bacta Tank
After "Part III" ended with Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi badly burned at the hands of Darth Vader, "Part IV" begins with Tala and her allies submerging the Mapuzo fried Jedi in a bacta tank. These healing chambers have featured throughout the Star Wars franchise in a variety of shapes, but the design seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 copies Luke Skywalker's bacta tank in The Empire Strikes Back. The episode's direction and framing then pays homage to the original trilogy by closely mirroring Luke's bacta scenes on Hoth.
Leia's Interrogation Copies A New Hope
Captured by Imperial Inquisitors, young Princess Leia sits cuffed in an interrogation room, pleading with Stormtroopers about how her father is a senator, and she's a "princess from Alderaan." This scene directly parallels Carrie Fisher's Leia imprisoned aboard the Death Star in A New Hope and her famous line, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan."
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Mentions Nur
When Obi-Wan, Tala, and their Path allies hatch a plan to infiltrate Fortress Inquisitorious, O'Shea Jackson's Roken brings up a holographic map of the water moon Nur, where the imposing hideout is located. Though we've visited the live-action Fortress Inquisitorious before on Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 marks the first direct mention of Nur, which was introduced to Star Wars canon by the Jedi: Fallen Order video game.
T-47s From The Empire Strikes Back
The Path possesses a couple (well, one now) of T-47 airspeeders. These iconic light vehicles were first seen in The Empire Strikes Back, famously used by Luke Skywalker and his fellow Rebels to take down AT-ATs during the Battle of Hoth. The modified versions are more commonly known as Snowspeeders.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 4 Mentions Balnab
Obi-Wan Kenobi's episode 4 Easter eggs make several references aimed purely toward Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans, and the first comes when Reva mentions Balnab as the source of her intelligence on the Path. This planet first appeared in "Nomad Droids" - a season 4 episode of the animated series - before resurfacing in a 2019 Han Solo comic book adventure.
Imperial Starfighter Pilots & Purge Troopers
Obi-Wan Kenobi's visit to Fortress Inquisitorious demands a crowd of your standard Stormtroopers and Imperial officers... but several unique variations hide among the white and gray throng. In the hangar area, Tala walks past Imperial Starfighter Pilots, known for flying TIE fighters in Star Wars' original trilogy. Obi-Wan Kenobi later faces a Stormtrooper squadron whose commander wears black-armor with a red shoulder plate. Though the helmet design is slightly altered, these are very likely Purge Troopers. Serving directly under the Inquisitors, Purge Troopers previously starred in Marvel's Darth Vader comic series and Jedi: Fallen Order.
Classic Star Wars Gadgets In Obi-Wan Kenobi
No Obi-Wan Kenobi Easter egg haul would be complete without props from the Star Wars original trilogy. The white handheld communicators Obi-Wan and Tala talk through are comlinks, first seen in A New Hope. When Tala gets asked for identification by an Imperial security officer, the pen-like object she subsequently hands over is a code cylinder. These also date back to 1977 . and were carried in Imperial officers' breast pockets.
Breathing Apparatus From The Phantom Menace
Obi-Wan Kenobi swims into Fortress Inquisitorious using some kind of mouth device to breathe underwater. This same metallic contraption featured in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn swam down to Otoh Gunga on Naboo.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Borrows A Cal Kestis Trick
Infiltrating Fortress Inquisitorious unnoticed is no easy task, but Obi-Wan Kenobi manages it by approaching from underwater. This Star Wars Easter egg nods once again towards Jedi: Fallen Order, as Cal Kestis also sneaks into the Empire stronghold by swimming up through a vent.
C-3PO's Abandoned Comlink Scene Revisited
When Tala is called away from her station by a suspicious colleague, she leaves her comlink abandoned on the desk. Obi-Wan Kenobi can be heard still shouting on the other end. This scene directly parallels a moment in A New Hope when Luke, Han, Chewbacca and Leia are stuck in the Death Star trash compactor. Skywalker is yelling at C-3PO through a comlink, but the droid's device is left idly on a desk. Like the aforementioned bacta tank scene, Obi-Wan Kenobi's framing and direction is deliberately similar to the corresponding original trilogy sequence.
