With just one episode left for Obi-Wan Kenobi, there is no shortage of questions and theories regarding the finale. Despite being centered around two characters, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, whose fates audiences have known for decades, Obi-Wan Kenobi managed to create a sense of stakes around their rivalry. That had to do with stories no one ever imagined Obi-Wan had been a part of, such as rescuing Lea from the Empire, as well as with original show characters like the Third Sister Reva.
Set 10 years after the events of Obi-Wan went from the Clone Wars general to an element figure hiding his powers in the desert was one of the saga's mysteries, as well as how and when exactly Obi-Wan learned that Anakin – or Darth Vader – was alive.
The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi took a significant twist in episode 5, in which audiences learned that Obi-Wan was never the hunt but rather the bait. The Third Sister Reva, who Vader falsely granted as Grand Inquisitor, was revealed to be one of the younglings who were at the Jedi Temple when Anakin attacked. Reva's goal throughout the entire show was never killing Kenobi or becoming Grand Inquisitor, but rather killing Darth Vader herself. While it is certain that Reva cannot kill Darth Vader, the future of the character – and what plans she has for Luke Skywalker – is one of the finale's biggest questions. Obi-Wan Kenobi's final episode will also have to answer what happens between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader for now and how Kenobi will manage to back to hiding after making such noise in during his mission to rescue Leia. Here is a breaking down of the biggest questions, predictions, and theories for the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale.
What Will Happen Between Reva & Luke Skywalker?
While Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5 never actually showed Reva near Luke Skywalker, it heavily implied that the Third Sister is heading to Tatooine. After Haja lost the com-link Obi-Wan handled to him, Reva managed to hear part of the message recorded by Bail Organa to the Jedi master. Although Organa's words are not completely revealing, Reva seems to have put things together regarding two children who are important to Darth Vader – most likely his own children. With Leia now safe with The Way and most likely heading straight to Alderaan, Reva has found in Tatooine a chance to hurt Vader, who she knows is Anakin, in a way he would never anticipate. It is still not clear whether or not Reva knows if Vader is aware that his children are alive. Either way, the former youngling is currently being driven by pure revenge. That said, Luke Skywalker is one of the characters whose fate audiences know well, meaning that either Reva's plan to get to Luke will fail or that the Third Sister will give up on her revenge at some point.
Will Reva Die In The Obi-Wan Kenobi Finale?
Should Reva be redeemed or not, there are not too many options regarding the character's fate in Obi-Wan Kenobi. No Third Sister ever appeared in stories set after Obi-Wan Kenobi, such as the Grand Inquisitor's actual death by Kanan and Ezra. In the case of Reva being redeemed, then there would also be the question of where exactly she was during the events of the original trilogy and why she never helped the rebellion fight Vader and the Empire. All of those elements make Reva's death in Obi-Wan Kenobi most likely to happen. That said, there is the possibility that Reva walks out of the show alive, redeemed or not, and that her following journey will not have anything to do with the rebellion or the Empire.
Will Qui-Gon Jinn Finally Answer Obi-Wan?
Obi-Wan has been trying to reach his master Qui-Gon Jinn since the beginning of the show. At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda tells Obi-Wan about an experience he recently had with Qui-Gon, something that Clone Wars season 6 better explains. Yoda reveals to Obi-Wan that they can reach out through Qui-Gon even after his death and that the Jedi master still has something to teach to his padawan. Considering how Obi-Wan is able to turn into a Force Ghost after his death in A New Hope, it is safe to say that Kenobi succeeds in his training of the Cosmic and Living Force. That is why Qui-Gon Jinn, who may or may not have already spoken with Obi-Wan, has to answer Kenobi back through the Force at some point. Being finally able to reach out to Qui-Gon Jinn would mean that Obi-Wan is finally beginning to find peace with his own failures and fear.
Why Obi-Wan Will Likely Beat Darth Vader In Kenobi's Finale
The idea that Obi-Wan and Darth Vader had a rematch after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope took many by surprise, as it risked creating inconsistencies with Episode IV. However, the scenes regarding Vader and Kenobi in A New Hope were open to interpretation, mostly due to lines like, "A presence I've not felt since…" and, "When I left you, I was but the learner…" Still, it's clear that Darth Vader cannot beat Obi-Wan before their encounter in A New Hope. Even if Vader does not want to kill Obi-Wan, the Sith Lord would never let Kenobi escape and go back into hiding and would most likely keep him as a trophy. Also, the "When I left you, I was but the learner" line suggests that their last encounter before A New Hope did not end well for Vader.
Theory: Obi-Wan Will Still Try To Redeem Anakin Skywalker
In Luke Skywalker is trying to convince his father to let go of the dark side and the Emperor, Vader says that "Obi-Wan once thought as you did." However, there is not really any moment in Revenge of the Sith in which Obi-Wan tries to convince Anakin to abandon the dark side – as Kenobi was still reacting to everything that had happened. Obi-Wan still has to try to redeem Anakin Skywalker so that the Return of the Jedi line makes sense.
Theory: Obi-Wan Fakes His Own Death In Kenobi's Finale
While Darth Vader and the Emperor are aware that Kenobi lives, as suggested in Star Wars Rebels, the rest of the Empire and even the rebellion have to believe the Jedi master is dead. Otherwise, there would be constant missions throughout the galaxy by both the Empire and the rebels to try to find Obi-Wan, a person who could change the course of the war. That is why it is likely that Obi-Wan fakes his death in the Kenobi finale.
Will The Finale Set Up Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2?
Initially, Obi-Wan Kenobi had been d as a limited series. However, Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor has said more than once, including during Star Wars Celebration 2022, that he wants to keep doing the show. Should the numbers for the final episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi be as good as the one from the premiere was, then there would be no reason for Disney+ and Lucasfilm not to consider an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. Even if those talks are yet to be made, it's possible that episode 6 will set up some plotlines for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 to pick up, should it ever happen. Obi-Wan still has to remain in exile as Luke's protector, but there are still nine years in canon before the events of A New Hope.
