As soon as you boot up your first save file for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, you need to complete a nominal tutorial section, then it's off to the races. You can do pretty much whatever you want after that, including the main storyline, or any number of sidequests. Or, you can fast travel to the arena and start working your way up the ranks to Grand Champion.
Like most Elder Scrolls adventures, Oblivion is open-ended, and you can make some quick cash by fighting in the lower ranks of the arena early on. The same principle applies to very few elements were changed at all, and the arena is just one place you can stop by in the opening days of your quest to save Cyrodiil.
Where To Find The Arena In Oblivion (& How To )
Thankfully, The Arena Is Fully Accessible Right After The Tutorial
You'll need to clear the initial intro quest with Emperor Uriel Septim himself (still voiced by Patrick Stewart), which includes running through a dungeon, into the sewer system. After emerging from the dank prison emblazoned with a new purpose, you'll be able to pause the game, open the world map, and select an existing location to fast travel to. If you want to go to the arena, it can be found in the eastern portion of the Imperial City.
All you need to do is hover over the arena, initiate the fast travel process, and you'll be plopped right in front of the main gates. To get inside the arena proper and start fighting, you'll need to turn left at the outdoor arena entrance and go down into the bloodworks (think of this zone like a training/prep ground before battles). Speak to Owyn (located in the hallway across from the bloodworks entrance) and tell him you "want to be a combatant" to kick off the arena questline.

Will you be buying The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered upon its release?
I never played Oblivion when it first came out, but I love Skyrim and definitely want to give it a try. I'm planning to wait a short while to see how things pan out with bugs before I invest in the game, and I am also curious to see if there will be a physical disc release, as I don't like buying games digitally. Overall, it looks great, and if it's successful, it will be a real treat for fantasy video game fans.
If you just want to bet on fights, you can do that at the main gate of the arena by speaking to Hundolin. You can earn some fast gold here, but the real meat of the arena lies below with Owyn and the rest of the competitors.
Arena Ranks, Matches, & Quests In Oblivion Remastered
There Are Eight Ranks To Get Through To Achieve Grand Champion
Once you're actually in the arena, have spoken to Owyn, and are ready to go: you'll need to don a raiment (either light or heavy) to enter the battlegrounds. Your choices are light and heavy, depending on your build and playstyle. If you choose incorrectly or lose your equipment, don't worry. There are several cabinets in the bloodworks that contain extra raiments.
From here onward, you'll need to work your way from Pit Dog (the lowest rank) all the way up to Grand Master to complete the arena questline. Each rank requires three bouts, and most of them are 60 seconds or less. Here are all the ranks available in the Oblivion arena:
- Pit Dog
- Brawler
- Bloodletter
- Myrmidon
- Warrior
- Gladiator
- Hero
- Champion
- Grand Champion (against Agronak/The Gray Prince)
The rules of the arena are simple. As long as you wield the raiment, you'll be able to equip your own helmet, shield, and weapon. All spells will work inside the arena, so casters won't be left out just because they aren't donning the typical gladiatorial equipment. How you choose to approach the arena is completely up to you, but you'll be able to get far with a melee build early in the game (before you acquire all of your spells and upgrades).
After you've finished each battle, make sure you stop by the basin of renewal: a stone font of water that completely heals your character. If you want to get to the arena early, selecting a class like a knight or warrior before you complete the tutorial will help you get a leg up and snag some early-game gold for wins.
For An Edge In the Final Fight, You Can Finish The Gray Prince Quest
It Also Adds A Bit Of Flavor To The Arena
Agronak, the final boss, can be located in the bloodworks away from the crowd, practicing on a training dummy. Speaking to Agronak will allow you to accept the Gray Prince questline, which sheds light on his background and how he became the Grand Champion. The quest is straightforward to complete. After talking to Agronak, you'll get a quest marker for Crowhaven, a fort far to the west of Cyrodiil.
Fast travel to the town of Anvil, head northwest, and fight your way into Crowhaven. Follow the main hallway to Lord Lovidicus, the father of Agronak. Here you have several options: engage and kill the lord and take his diary from his bedroom (titled "Journal of the Lord Lovidicus"), or sneak through and steal it. When you return to the arena, Agronak will be in despair and will let you automatically win in the final Grand Master fight. You also have the option of never finishing the quest, if you want to fight Agronak in the arena as an equal.
If you want to go the Gray Prince route, make sure you finish this quest before you get to Grand Master and challenge Agronak directly.
Once you've completed The Gray Prince quest and have taken down Agronak, you've done pretty much everything you can do in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered arena. Feel free to bet on fights or enjoy the sights whenever you're in the Imperial City.
