The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered quests are often full of conflicting perspectives, and perhaps no quest embodies this more than "Two Sides of the Same Coin." Found in Bruma, this particular scenario focuses on a couple of thieves named Arnora and Jorundr. Jorundr is currently locked up inside the Bruma Castle dungeon, and in a Rashomon twist, he and Arnora tell different tales of how he ended up behind bars.

While it isn't clear which character is behind the murder that doomed Jorundr, the two do agree on one point — there's a treasure hidden in some location that only Jorundr knows. By helping one or the other, you have a chance to claim that reward for yourself. If you follow Arnora's guidance, you'll need to trick Jorundr, but if you do things his way, you'll have to kill Arnora to receive his help. Either way, the quest will result in a similar level of bloodshed and rewards with a few key differences.

How To Start Two Sides Of The Coin

Meeting Arnora & Jorundr

Getting to the crucial choice in "Two Sides of the Coin" can take some setup work. Enter Arnora Auria's home in Bruma, raise her opinion of you with the persuasion mini-game, and she'll tell you that Jorundr is being kept in the Bruma Castle Dungeon. Although she's complicit in past crimes, her story paints him as a clear villain who manipulated her and killed a guard after his greed got them in too deep. She'll ask you to seek him out in the dungeon to learn the location of hidden treasure, which she promises to split with you as a reward.

Oblivion Remastered: A Brotherhood Betrayed Quest Walkthrough

A Brotherhood Betrayed is all about finding one culprit, but tracking him down requires talking to several different NPCs and finding a secret.

You can easily visit Bruma Castle Dungeon to see Jorundr — head through the dungeon door in the main hall or barracks and down the steps, where a guard will escort you to see the prisoner upon request.Even if you max out the persuasion mini-game with him, however, he won't trust you unless you're a fellow inmate.

The quickest way to get locked up is to steal a trivial object in front of the castle guards, which can be easily done by nabbing some food or silverware in the crowded barracks. Once you're in a cell with him, he'll present his side of the story, in which Arnora killed the guard, and ask you to kill Arnora and bring him her amulet as proof.

What Happens If You Kill Arnora

The Most Straightforward Approach

If you take Jorundr at his word, you can head back to Arnora's home and kill her where she stands. You can loot her corpse and grab her shortsword if you do so. Alternatively, if you tell her you plan to kill her and then exit the home, guards will do the dirty work for you. Instead of taking the amulet with a blue stone from her body, open the chest next to her bed to take the red amulet. Return to Jorundr and present the red amulet (or both, for additional dialogue) to satisfy him.

Don't kill Arnora before speaking to Jorundr, as this will end the quest early, and you'll receive an infamy point instead of a fame point.

Jorundr will tell you where the treasure is located, just outside the Bruma city walls. You can head to the designated location to find the treasure, which will be inside a half-buried chest. You'll get some rings, gems, gold, and a couple of skill books for your trouble. The latter can depend on your current level and skills, but I received Purloined Shadows and The Warrior's Charge in each outcome I tested. You'll also get a fame point when all is said and done.

What Happens If You Trick Jorundr

Arnora Has No Way Out

If you don't believe Jorundr's story or simply wish to avoid bloodshed, you can concoct a scheme with Arnora rather than killing her. Since Jorundr only requires the amulet, Arnora will give it to you if you agree to split the treasure 50/50. Jorundr is easily convinced by presenting the amulet, so he'll give you the same information as before regarding the treasure's location. This time, though, you don't want to head outside the gates unaware.

The jailor Tyrellius Logellus, whom Jorundr noted as suspicious, is waiting near the treasure. In the interest of taking it for himself, he's already killed Arnora and plans to do the same to you. Kill Tyrellius, and you can both take the treasure and loot his body. As with the other approach, you'll get rings, gems, gold, a couple of skill books, and one point of fame. The quest log updates with the note that Bruma may no longer be safe, as the town guard may incorrectly suspect that the protagonist killed Arnora, but you won't actually get in any trouble.

You Should Kill Arnora (Depending On Your Level)

A Solid Sword & An Extra Amulet

Arnora's sword next to her corpse in Oblivion Remastered

Morally, there's not too much of a concern from taking either approach, as Arnora will die regardless. It's impossible to prove who's telling the truth, but both seem like manipulative people, and it's relatively likely that the real story could lie somewhere in between the competing narratives. Mechanically, the benefits are almost identical, but killing Arnora is the slightly more straightforward approach. You could argue that Tyrellius is a threat that needs to be killed, but it doesn't have other effects on the story.

While the contents of the chest and the fame point won't change according to your choices, Tyrellius will only appear if you don't kill Arnora. Having an extra body to loot can be worthwhile, but the shortsword and additional amulet that I got from killing Arnora at level eight were slightly more valuable than the sum of his possessions. You can still loot her corpse if Tyrellius kills her, but you'll miss out on these particular items.

Should You Level Luck In Oblivion Remastered?

Oblivion Remastered's most confusing stat isn't useless, but there are times when leveling Luck is worthwhile and times when it's best ignored.

At lower levels, however, siding with Arnora can make more sense. Her shortsword depends on your level, and if you're heading to Bruma early, it won't be worth as much as Tyrellius's gear. Regardless of his level, you can pick up chainmail armor and a longsword from his corpse. Either way, the loot you get from Tyrellius or Arnora should exceed the value of what's in the chest itself.

All the same, there's no huge difference in windfall, so there's no reason to regret siding with either if you've already made the choice. While "Two Sides of the Coin" presents an interesting moral dilemma, it doesn't have any interest in providing clear answers, and the primary outcome and rewards are the same for both options. At many levels, you'll be slightly better off siding with Jorundr than Arnora, but it's not a choice to lose sleep over in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
