With released to Xbox Consoles and Game on PC recently, it is a great chance to get back into it. Due to its multiple unique characters and lengthy and interesting story, it is easy to have missed some things. Specifically, Ophilia is one of the eight main characters of the game, originated from Flamesgrace in the Frostlands.

With her class being a cleric, she primarily carries skills capable of quickly restoring the party's health to full when need be. As with every character, Ophilia's story is split into four chapters. However, since some things are only indirectly mentioned through the story while others are briefly teased through in-between travel banters, it is easy to miss some important characteristics about Ophilia.

Her Name

Ophilia as seen in Octopath Traveler.

Although it is known from the story that her nickname, given to her by her sister Liana, is Phili, her actual full name is not discussed at all. As mentioned in the official wiki, her full name is Ophilia Clement.

Ophilia originates from the Greek word 'ophelos' which roughly translates to 'helping out.' This explains one of the main aspects of her character, which is to always be ready to go out of her way to help someone in need.

Orphan

In-game description of Ophilia Clement.

Mentioned briefly throughout the story is the fact that Ophilia was an orphan adopted by archbishop Josef and his daughter Lianna. According to the first chapter of her story, her whole family was lost in war, and she was left with nothing to hope for.

It was then, 15 years from the game's current timeline, that she was adopted by the church and started her life as a cleric. Despite being adopted, both the archbishop and Lianna see her as a true part of the family.

Her Age

Ophilia Art

Similar to Ophelia's full name, her age is also only mentioned on the wiki. She is claimed to be 20 years old, which makes her story even more unique considering the weight she has to carry from such a young age.

Based on the story, it is known that she was adopted by the archbishop 15 years ago. Due to that, we can assume that the war in which Ophilia lost her family happened when she was only 5 years old.

Best Starseer

Starseer is one of the 12 possible jobs for characters to take, and 1 of the 4 hidden ones. Along with Primrose, Ophilia is considered the best choice for taking the Starseer Class since it greatly enhances her ing capabilities through multiple skills.

Specifically, this class equips Ophilia with two offensive attacks and many more buff skills. This makes her a must-have for every party that hopes to survive long boss fights.

First in Numerical Order

Several characters gathered around a table

The game's name "Octopath" is also an acronym for each of the eight characters' names. Specifically, the first O stands for Ophilia, C for Cyrus, T for Tressa, and so on. It is a common approach by many players to follow this order for choosing the order in which they recruit each character. As Ophilia is the first character numerically, this is a good way to decide with who to start when in doubt.

Best Starting Character

Choosing a character to start with does not have many limitations, as the player can follow any character's story in any order they prefer. The only thing to keep in mind is that the starting character cannot be swapped out of the party unless all four chapters of their story are completed. Ophilia is a great starting choice, since the player almost always wants her in their party due to her being the best character in the game.

Natural Talent in Card Games

Tressa tends to be the best choice of Runelord in Octopath Traveler because of her primary Merchant job class

During a post-game banter, Cyrus and Tressa invite Ophilia to play a card game with them. Ophilia initially hesitates since she does not know the rules, but, after they offer to teach her, she accepts the invitation.

Despite it being her first time playing, Cyrus claims that her face is impossible to read due to her constant smile. Further to that, she keeps winning again and again. Down to sheer luck or immense skill, Ophilia seems to have a talent for card games.

Best SP and Elemental Defense

Multiple character journeying together.

With 99 being the max level at which each character's stats max out, Ophilia achieves the highest SP (236), with Cyrus coming second with 18 less (216). Her high SP pool allows for constant healing and revives, further enhancing her spot as the best character in the game.

At the same time, at max level, Ophilia has the highest Elemental Defense, which is defense against magical attacks. Combined with her high SP, she has the tools to keep herself and her allies always healthy.

Divine Skill

Cyrus, Ophilia, H'aanit, and Olberic battle Managarmr.

Unless one has acquired all of her abilities, it is easy to miss the power of Ophilia's divine skill, which is considered by many players as one of the best skills in the game. Aelfric's Auspices buffs an ally's skills by making them cast twice. It can be a great combo with characters like Cyrus, who can equip the Sorceress Class, making his skills cast three times normally and 6 times with the buff! The damage potential combined with the shield breaks is phenomenal.

High Expectations

Multiple characters celebrating by the píano

In a barter involving the four female characters regarding romance, Ophilia describes her ideal man as "comionate, caring, thoughtful and upright." She wants someone who can handle themselves in combat while being gentle with everyone else. Although it seems as if she is setting the bar too high, players have noticed that her expectations are the traits of all four male characters added together.
