In turn-based RPG Octopath Traveler, Runelords are sometimes considered overpowered, as they have the ability to apply and use runes along with physical weapons and attacks for extra damage. Players tend to build up Tressa as their resident Runelord, as the class pairs well with her Merchant job. Runelord Merchants have access to weapons that will boost elemental damage done with runes, and Merchants gain the ability to evade an attack using Sidestep, and, when paired with Runelord ability Transfer Rune, can allow the whole party to dodge attacks.
Runelords can be both powerful offensive players and somewhat less powerful systems. Runelords are known for dealing damage. They can use swords, axes, bows, and polearms along with their runes and elemental damage to fight enemies. However, players will need to wait to begin building within the Runelord class, as it is a hidden job at first. Players can only unlock it by finding the Shrine of the Runeblade in West Everhold , a Danger Level 50 Dungeon. Here are a few tips, tricks, and strategies for the Runelord class in Octopath Traveler.
Use Offensive Skills for Runelords in Octopath Traveler
Most of the Runelord's skills center on the equipping and use of runes that deal damage from any of the six elements in the game. This damage is in addition to the typical damage done by a Runelord's physical weapon.
Runelords can only apply one rune at a time, and it is not possible to stack multiple runes of different elements.
Players will want to pick up all eight offensive skills. Seven of these are basic skills that cost 2000 JP. The last one is considered a Divine skill and costs 5000 JP. They are:
- Ice Rune
- Fire Rune
- Thunder Rune
- Wind Rune
- Dark Rune
- Light Rune
- Transfer Rune
- Balogar's Blade.
Of these, Transfer Rune is perhaps the most important. Using this skill, the Runelord can apply any of the runes to the entire party, allowing them to do added elemental damage on their next turns. The Divine skill, Balogar's Blade is also incredibly overpowered, as it will hit a single enemy with elemental damage from each of the six elements at once.
Players should have the Runelord start with Transfer Rune to increase the party's damage output right away.
Build up ive Skills for Runelords in Octopath Traveler
There are four skills for the Runelord. If players choose to make Tressa the Runelord, which is considered the ideal, her extra skill Sidestep. Sidestep is a defensive maneuver that allows Tressa to dodge a single attack. If Tressa casts Transfer Rune first, this skill will transfer to the others in the party and allow them to evade attacks as well.
By far the best skill for the Runelord will be the Elemental Edge. This skill applies permanent elemental attack and defense buffs on the character, adding to their power and damage potential.
The other three skills are okay, though players may want to ignore Stat Swap. SP Recovery will allow players to regain an amount of SP that equals 1% of the damage taken, and Dauntless will increase physical and elemental attack strength when the character has an ailment placed on them.
Any character who becomes a Runelord could benefit from Sorcerer skills as well. Players are encouraged to experiment to find what works best for their playing style.
For players who make Tressa a Runelord, consider swapping Elemental Edge for Augmented Elements. This skill adds a 20% bonus to elemental damage. They can also use skills from the Hunter or Warrior classes to supplement the build. Rather than bothering with Stat Swap, using something like Suring Power, which raises maximum damage to 99,999, or one of the two Hunter skills that increase the chances of extra hits or damage at the end of a turn.
Choose the Right Runelord Equipment in Octopath Traveler
Players can choose their equipment any way they want. Because they have eight characters, they will want to be selective about the equipment they give the Runelord.
Whether players have made Tressa or another character the Runelord, they will want to grab equipment that increases elemental damage output, like Herald's Sword, which does extra fire damage, or Adamantite Hat, which adds 88 damage to elemental attacks.
It is always a good idea to equip every party member with at least one elemental weapon or piece of armor. When used with Transfer Rune, the party can do tons of damage against foes.
Octopath Traveler is available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
