Several job classes are hidden and can be added for characters as a secondary job in the Octopath Traveler, including the Sorcerer class. Sorcerers, as expected, wield magic and can also sometimes fight using bows. To unlock this class, players will first need to find the Shrine of the Archmagus in East Duskbarrow Trail and defeat the boss there. Players are going to want to unlock this class, along with the other advanced jobs, to fight some of the more difficult foes near the end of the game.

The character who takes on the Sorcerer class will become the most powerful mage in the game. There aren't many tricks to choosing an appropriate character to become a Sorcerer. Whoever a player chooses will be powerful and have access to all-enemies three-hit spells for each of the six elements in the game. Still, it is important to build well and to make sure the Sorcerer is equipped with gear to make them even more powerful against enemies. Here are some tips and strategies for the Sorcerer class in Octopath Traveler.

Sorcerer Skills in Octopath Traveler

A party can deal elemental magic damage, especially when a Sorcerer is involved in Octopath Traveler

Unlike other mages in the game, Sorcerer attacks affect all foes in a battle three times. Sorcerers are also able to attack physically with their staff, which other mages cannot do.

The Divine skill for the Sorcerer, Dreisang's Spell, will ensure that an ally's elemental attack will bring critical damage to the enemy for three turns. When the Sorcerer uses this with a Runelord, battles become far easier.

Sorcerers have access to eight active skills. They are:

  • Ignis Ardere - Deal fire damage to all foes 3 times
  • Glacies Claudere - Deal ice damage to all foes 3 times
  • Tonitrus Canere - Deal lightning damage to all foes 3 times
  • Venus Saltare - Deal wind damage to all foes 3 times
  • Lux Congerere - Deal light damage to all foes 3 times
  • Tenebrae Operir - Deal dark damage to all foes 3 times
  • Elemental Break - Unleash a powerful staff attack on a single foe that also reduces the target's elemental defense for 2 turns
  • Dreisang's Spell - Deal critical damage from a single ally's elemental attacks for 3 turns

The ive skills for the Sorcerer are also good, ensuring spells hit harder. The options include:

  • Intimidation - Adds a 25% chance for foes to begin battle with reduced physical attack and elemental defense
  • Stronger Strikes - Increase damage dealt when hitting an enemy's weak point
  • Elemental Aid - Doubles the consumption of XP on casting an elemental attack, but increases the power of the hit.
  • Augmented Elements - Increases the damage dealt by elemental attacks by about 20%

Players should note that equipping Intimidation for multiple characters will not increase the chances of foes starting with reduced abilities.

The Runelord and the Sorcerer can often swap or share skills, particularly ive skills, to make new and devastatingly powerful combinations.

Sorcerer Equipment in Octopath Traveler

Players will want to make sure to equip a staff or a bow for their Sorcerer. Staff might be the better choice should the player want to use the Elemental Break skill.

Sorcerers should also use equipment that improves or increases the power of their elemental attacks. For example, they may want to use the Battle-tested Staff, which increases elemental attacks further by an additional 399.

Players who choose to make Primrose or Therion their Sorcerer will also be able to equip a dagger for dark or fire damage, while other characters will be restricted to the staff or bow options.
