For players who love physical fighting in RPGs, unlocking the Warmaster hidden job in Octopath Traveler will allow a chosen character to become the ultimate fighter and take on some of the more advanced bosses. Warmaster is one of the four hidden, advanced job classes in the game, and players will need to unlock it. They can do so by defeating Winnehild at the Shrine of the Warbringer in North Riverford Traverse. While players are free to make any character their Warmaster, most choose their strongest attackers, like Olberic or H’Aanit. Many prefer H'Aanit, as she has a greater physical damage stat (8%) than Olberic (5%).

The Warmaster can equip all available weapons in the game, making them powerful damage-dealers. Their Divine skill is nearly game-breaking, as it attacks an enemy six time with all six different weapon types to determine the enemy's weakness right away. They also have the ability to learn an equip non-traditional weapon skills. Here are some tips and strategies for playing as a Warmaster in Octopath Traveler.

Like the other four hidden jobs, unlocking the Warmaster job class opens eight new active skills, one of which is a Divine skill. It also opens four new ive skills that are worth picking up and equipping. The eight new skills and their powers are:

  • Guardian Liondog - Uses 5 to 10 sword attacks on random enemies
  • Tiger Rage - Uses an ax attack on all enemies
  • Qilin's Horn - Uses a polearm attack on a single enemy
  • Yatagarasu - Uses a dagger attack on all enemies
  • Fox Spirit - Uses a staff attack on all enemies
  • Phoenix Storm - Uses a bow attack on a single enemy
  • Nightmare Chimera - Attacks a single enemy using a weapon in inventory
  • Winnehild's Battle Cry - Uses six weapons to unleash six attacks on all enemies.

Players should keep in mind that Nightmare Chimera, while good, will destroy whatever weapon is used in the process.

Pairing a Warmaster with a Runelord during battle, especially if that Runelord happens to be Tressa, can increase the effectiveness of some of the multihit attacks from the Warmaster, especially if Sidestep is used in tandem with Transfer Rune.

The four ive skills are worth picking up, either by the Warmaster or another job class. They are:

  • Extra Experience - Gains additional experience from each battle
  • Stalwart Defense - Increases physical defense by 50
  • Fortitude - Deals more damage when HP is low
  • Physical Prowess - Augments Physical Attack and Physical Defense during battle

Extra Experience is great to have, but players could also give that one to their Starseer instead. The effect doesn't stack, so no matter how many characters have it equipped, the amount of extra XP is stagnant. Still, having it equipped at all makes it easier to level up, and it's worth keeping equipped through the end of the game.

Stalwart Defense is not particularly unique, as many ives from basic job classes similarly increase defenses. However, it is still good to have, and, if players have the room, they should equip it. Physical Prowess also gives a boost to defense, which is important for a heavy-hitter like a Warmaster.

Players can instead choose to equip Patience, the fourth Hunter skill, which adds a 25% chance to act again at the end of a round. However, it's a matter of personal preference. If the Warmaster isn't frequently losing HP, it might be better to use Patience instead of Fortitude.

Warmaster Equipment in Octopath Traveler

Generally, the Warmaster should have all the Battle-Tested equipment. The only exceptions should be the staff, where the Sorcerer should take the Battle-tested one, and the armor. Players should also consider equipping armor and accessories that enhance accuracy to ensure hits land more frequently and deal more damage. This is especially helpful for sword and polearm attacks, which can easily miss. Players can also experiment with physical attack accessories to supplement their character build.
