Jenna Fischer reveals that a guest cameo in Jim Halpert (John Krasinski), is one of the most important elements of The Office's emotional throughline. Although there were many obstacles on their road to getting together, Pam and Jim eventually got married and had two children.

The Office season 6, episode 18, "The Delivery: Part 2," is the second half of a particularly significant moment in the show's history, which aired on March 4, 2010. In the episode, Pam has just given birth to her and Jim's first baby (a daughter named Cece), but is having trouble breastfeeding. The hospital calls in a lactation consultant to help Cece to breastfeed, but his physical handling of Pam makes Jim very uncomfortable.

On a recent episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Fisher and her co-host and former co-star, Angela Kinsey, discussed "The Delivery: Part 2." The stars revealed that the lactation consultant, whose named is Clark, was played by Fischer's then-fiancee Lee Kirk. The Office actors explained that Kirk was brought on to play the role so Fischer would be more comfortable than if an unknown guest actor were to play such an intimate role. Read Fischer's comments below:

"Well, when the writers came up with this storyline of the lactation consultant, Paul Lieberstein approached me, got me aside and said, Hey, Jenna, we have this really funny idea, but it involves a man kind of like squishing your breasts around. How do you feel about that? Like, that would be a guest actor. Are you okay with it? And I said, Well, I think it would be maybe a little awkward now that you mention it. And he said, Well, what if that person was your fiancee, Lee? What if Lee did it?"

The Office Jim and Pam Baby Cece

The Office was by no means Kirk's first foray into the world of TV and film. Fischer's now-husband studied at the Goodman School for Acting in Chicago, and is a writer and director who has worked on the films Ordinary World and The Giant Mechanical Man, as well as The Office season 9 episode "Vandalism." While Fischer is so synonymous with Pam Beesly that it may be difficult for some to imagine her romantically involved with someone other than her on-screen love Jim, Kirk and Fischer have in fact been married since 2010. The pair tied the knot in July, just a few months after their collaborative The Office episode aired.

In addition to being a very sweet (though quite unexpected) cameo, Kirk's role on the series also speaks to the working environment on The Office. The fact that Lieberstein (who was co-showrunner at the time as well as playing the role of Dunder Mifflin's Toby Flenderson) approached Fischer ahead of time and found a way to make sure the actor was comfortable on set is indicative of a close and ive cast and crew, which was often evident on-screen in the ensemble's strong chemistry. Suffice to say, Kirk's surprise cameo ultimately made him part of one of The Office's most memorable and sentimental episodes, which he and Fischer will now always share together.
