On The Office, there were a variety of romantic relationships that were explored over the show's nine seasons. Some of these couples were better together than others, and many of them had their ups and downs. While certain pairs like Jim and Pam were adored by fans, others, such as Jan and Michael, weren’t meant to last. While the series was filled with a lot of men who weren’t always the best boyfriends, the women of the show weren’t always great good girlfriends either.

While some of the main girlfriends from the show were overall great partners, others were pretty awful.

Erin Hannon

The Office Gabe and Erin

Erin Hannon is one of the kindest characters from The Office. Her biggest flaw is that she can be rather naive and doesn’t stick up for herself enough. When she's dating Gabe, it’s clear that she doesn't really like him or want to be with him, but she stays with him because she doesn’t know how to break up with him. While she might have been an overall good girlfriend, she did herself a disservice by staying with people she didn’t really want to be with.

Katy

Katy was the woman who sold purses to Dunder Mifflin during the first season of the show and who briefly dated Jim.

These two clearly weren’t meant to be, and there’s no denying that Jim wasn’t a good boyfriend to her at all as he still loved Pam. But it’s clear that Katy didn’t have that much in common with Jim either and that she wasn’t all that engaged in their relationship.

Carol Stills

Micahel Scott dated a lot of different women before he ended up with Holly Flax. Most of these relationships didn’t turn out very well, and much of the time this was because of Michael’s own issues. But while he was way too intense and clingy with Carol, she did lead him on somewhat. After he proposed to her and she clearly wasn’t that into him, it would have been best for them both if she would have broken up with him then and there.

Pam Beesly

Pam and Jim are one of the most beloved television couples of all time. While they aren’t perfect, many people rooted for their relationship as the show went along. Jim definitely had his moments where he wasn’t a great boyfriend, like when he didn’t tell Pam about his plans with Athlead. However, Pam wasn’t always perfect either. She often hid her feelings and wasn’t honest about what she wanted which caused problems for herself and her relationships.

Karen Filippelli

Karen Filippelli was the only other serious relationship that Jim Halpert had. Overall, she was a really good girlfriend, and it’s clear that Jim just wasn’t able to get over Pam. While Karen was a good partner, she wasn’t always the right partner for Jim. She was more independent in nature and ended up leaving Jim in New York to hang out with her friends. While there wasn’t anything wrong with that, it wasn’t the relationship either one of them were looking for.

Holly Flax

The Office Michael Scott and Holly Flax

Of all of Michael’s relationships on The Office, the one he had with Holly was definitely the best. These two clearly loved each other, and, when they got together in the end, it was a positive thing. However, there were times when Holly wasn’t the best girlfriend. She broke up with Michael rather prematurely even though she had strong feelings for him. She also dated A.J. for a long time even while having feelings for Michael.

Donna Newton

Donna Newton was another one of Michael Scott's love interests. But their relationship was short-lived due to her already being married. While at first they seemed like they could be a good match, the fact that she was married and didn’t even tell Michael made her a horrible wife and person. It was Michael who had to be the one to break up with her, and the fact she was a cheater and liar makes her one of the worst girlfriends on the show.

Kelly Kapoor

There are many relationships in the series that have strange dynamics or are unhealthy at times, but maybe the most toxic relationship is between Kelly and Ryan.

They both do awful things to one another and use each other. While Ryan is probably worse to Kelly, she is also really manipulative and selfish. She doesn’t exactly do herself any favors by always getting back together with him. These two fight all the time and have a whole list of issues.

Angela Martin

The Office

Angela and Dwight are another couple that has some really unhealthy moments. While they seem rather good together by the end of the series, earlier times in their relationship weren’t good at all. Angela refused to it she was dating Dwight for a long time, and she even let him get fired because of this. Then, she broke up with him after he killed her cat but continued to have affairs with him over the years anyway. She was often hot and cold and wouldn’t it how she really felt about him.

Jan Levinson

While some of the other girlfriends from The Office might be bad at times, Jan really takes the cake. At first it seems like Michael is the worse partner, but Jan gets more awful as time goes on. For one thing, she makes Michael defend her at her deposition and then uses his personal diary without his permission. But the overall worst thing she does is that she doesn’t respect his boundaries or get consent for the physical things that they do. This means that she basically assaults Micahel, and that is quite disturbing.
