It's hard to imagine, but this year marks the 20th anniversary of the wildly popular comedy Old School. It seems like the perfect opportunity for fans to revisit the middle-aged campus comedy and see how much it still holds up. However, there are already so many quotes from the movies that fans can look back on and still laugh at even after a couple of decades have ed.
The high concept is bolstered by the fantastic cast, especially the three leads. Their individual style of comedy helps to make this an unforgettable and hilarious film. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments and one-liners that have become iconic even after all these years. Relive the frat boy fun with the funniest quotes from Old School.
"Ah Denver, The Sunshine State... Denver?! Gorgeous!"
Mitch
As the lead of the movie Luke Wilson's Mitch is more of a straight man to the other wackier characters of the movie. However, he does also get some hilarious moments, such as when he is drunk at Frank's wedding following his revelation about his girlfriend.
Reuniting with his old high school crush, Nicole (Ellen Pompeo), Mitch drunkenly tries to reconnect with her. Wilson's delivery of this line is some terrific drunk acting that makes Mitch's failed attempt with Nicole even funnier.
"What, I Thought We Were In The Trust Tree In The Nest, Were We Not?"
Frank
One of the funniest sub-plots of the movie is Frank (Will Ferrell) finding that his hard-partying ways are damaging his new marriage. Frank's wife is having a hard time coping with the various shenanigans he is getting involved in and they eventually go to marriage counseling.
As the counselor ensures them that they are in a safe space where they should share openly, Frank decides to share what is one his mind lately. He goes into great detail about how he daydreams about other women and their underpants. He quickly learns that the so-called "trust tree" has its limits.
"I Was Wondering If Maybe You Wanted To Get Some Frozen Yogurt, Or Perhaps A Whole Meal Of Food, If That Would Be Agreeable."
Frank
While Frank might not be the most likable of Will Ferrell's characters, he does have a certain pathetic quality to him that is hard not to empathize with. This especially comes out when dealing with his marriage that is falling apart.
After being estranged from his wife for a while, Frank attempts to reconnect by leaving her a voicemail. The painfully awkward way he attempts to talk to this woman that he is married to is quite hilarious.
"Well, Why Don't You Give Me Your Number In Case Anything Happens To My Wife."
Beanie
Throughout the movie, Beanie talks about how terrible the idea of marriage is and how much he regrets marrying his wife. It's not surprising that he leads the charge on starting the fraternity as some form of escape from his domestic life.
However, when an attractive girl at one of the parties makes a move on Beanie, he proves that he really does love his wife and turns her down. However, he adds this last-minute suggestion, keeping the door open for the future.
"I'm Here For The Gang-Bang."
Gang-Bang Guy
The film starts with a bang, so to speak, with Mitch (Luke Wilson) returning home from a business trip and finding an unexpected surprise. He walks into his bedroom to find his girlfriend, Heidi, watching adult movies. While he is initially excited by the idea, that excitement quickly turns to horror as a group of blindfolded people, sans clothes, emerge from the closet.
For someone to find out that their partner is cheating on them is bad enough, but to find out just how much she was getting up to behind their back must really sting. To add to the terrible situation, a last-minute guest arrives at the door saying, "I'm here for the g**g-b**g." There's no denying it at that point.
"Columbus Wasn’t Exactly Looking For America, But That Seemed To Work Out For Everyone."
Beanie
Beanie is the man with all the answers in the movie whether they are wanted or not. He is headstrong and relentless in his arguments including telling Mitch that he should be happy about discovering his girlfriend's wild side.
He tells Mitch that he is lucky to have found someone as enlightened as Heidi. Mitch insists that was not what he was looking for in his relationship, but Beanie uses Columbus as an example of how accidental discoveries can be positive.
"That's How You Debate."
Frank
As with many great college movies, Old School gets to a point when the partying and shenanigans have to be put aside in order for the characters to actually prove themselves academically.
This leads to the climax with the characters facing a variety of tests, including Frank heading a debate team. Even though he is going up against political commentator James Carville, Frank blacks out and delivers an intelligent and irrefutable argument, priding himself on his out-of-the-blue debate skills.
"When I Left She Said, 'Weensie, If You Screw This Up, I'll Kill You.'"
Weensie
The exploits of the new fraternity soon catch the attention of the college Dean, who has a bitter history with Mitch and his friends. As a way to punish them, he declares the fraternity is to be shut down and all expelled from the school.
One of the frat boys, Weensie, takes this particularly badly, saying that his mother will kill him. The others reassure him that he's overexaggerating, but Weensie explains that his mother made that point perfectly clear. That's a pretty intense way to motivate children's education.
"Just Ring The F**king Bell, You Pansy."
Blue
It's clear that the frat's stand-out member is Blue. The extremely old veteran proves to be as ionate about the fraternity as any of the young and participates in all the activities, no matter how dangerous. However, the mud-wrestling contest they hold for his birthday bash proves to be too much for the old man.
As he steps into the ring, Frank questions if he's actually up for this kind of activity. Blue bluntly responds with his final words, "just ring the f**king bell, you pansy." Blue was a man that knew what he wanted, even if it killed him.
