It's time for Olivia Rodrigo to finally produce a proper No Doubt cover. Too often we witness artists delivering these magical cover performances, but they are never actually produced into a track. We have witnessed this with Justin Bieber, who gave an amazing rendition of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," and with Tate McRae, who covered Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away." However, the great Kelly Clarkson provides spectacular covers each week on her daily show, and a few of those have thankfully been recorded and released, so it can be done.
As of right now, Olivia Rodrigo has released two studio albums: 2021's Sour, which has gone 4x Platinum in the United States, and 2023's Guts, which claimed the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 that same year. She is known for her hits such as "good 4 u," "favorite crime," and "driver's license." Her top 10 on Spotify currently features eight songs with over one billion streams and another nearly at that mark. Clearly, everything she touches turns to gold, so there is no telling how big a cover of this magnitude could be.

Olivia Rodrigo Just Covered "Don't Speak" At Lollapalooza Chile
This Performance Was Everything
It was Friday, March 21, 2025, when Olivia Rodrigo took the stage for her set at Lollapalooza in Chile. According to setlist.fm, Rodrigo played 17 songs in her set, but it was song 12 that really got people talking. After performing her songs "lacy" and "enough for you," Rodrigo stood in her red outfit with an electric guitar in hand. There was no band behind her; it was just the pop star as vulnerable as can be, giving everything she had as she sang "Don't Speak" by No Doubt.

10 Best Olivia Rodrigo Songs Missing From The Guts World Tour Movie
Olivia Rodrigo included 24 songs in Netflix's Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour. However, there are several Rodrigo songs noticeably missing.
Her vocals were impeccable, and it showed the true range she has. Sometimes, when an artist does a cover, there is always fear of them trying to sound too much like the original, and therefore it doesn't come off right. However, this was not the case for Rodrigo. She made the song her own, and for as much as Gwen Stefani does have a unique voice, there were no traces of Stefani here. This was all Olivia Rodrigo, and it was easy to see she could make the song all her own if she wanted to.
Rodrigo Has History With No Doubt
The Tease Has Happened For Years
To some, Olivia Rodrigo's performance of "Don't Speak" may be just a pleasant surprise, but many fans will that her covering of No Doubt is something that dates back years. During a 2022 performance on her Sour Tour, she broke out another No Doubt classic, also from their 1995 album Tragic Kingdom: "Just a Girl." Before the performance, Rodrigo paused and let the crowd know just how much she ired the band, stating: "Anyone that knows me knows that I am the biggest Gwen Stefani fan in the world" (via livstour).
During that same performance, she also explained how she had gotten to formally meet Stefani at the Met Gala that same year. This was the beginning of a budding iration between the rising pop star and the legendary performer. In 2024, fans were treated to a magical performance as Rodrigo ed the reuniting No Doubt at Coachella. This time, with Stefani by her side, she was able to perform "Bathwater" from the band's 2000 album, Return of Saturn. During the performance, Rodrigo wore the iconic "I Heart ND" tank top and seemingly fit right in with the band.
It's Time For A Real Olivia Rodrigo No Doubt Cover
Get In The Studio And Give Us What We Need!
Now that we've heard three different No Doubt covers by Olivia Rodrigo, the question is which song should she record? Of course, during her Lollapalooza in Chile set, she noted that "Don't Speak" was one of her favorite songs that she didn't write, and she was jealous of those who did. Therefore, a "Don't Speak" cover could finally be her chance to get in the studio and truly put her own spin on a song that she ires so much. Better yet, maybe she could record covers of all three songs she has performed thus far.

Another option, if she gets into the studio, would be for her to create her own song with a No Doubt track incorporated. We've seen this done before when Justin Bieber released "Love Me" in 2009, which played off of "Lovefool" by The Cardigans, and more recently with Eminem on his song "Houdini," when he played off of "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band. There are plenty of great mash-ups that could be created, but there may even be a better option.
A final idea would be for her to do a cover and include No Doubt on the track. Since she has already teamed up with the band for a performance, it doesn't seem like this is something beyond the realm of possibility. Maybe she could even create a whole new track that features them. There are no immediate plans for a new Olivia Rodrigo album, but fingers crossed some kind of No Doubt track will make its way to the studio. Until then, there are a few videos of the covers to enjoy and dream about what could be.
