Publisher 2020 Olympics were originally canceled, but it's happening this year and keeping its original date in the name.

Sega has a history of producing games for the Olympics, with the most recent being Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The company will be releasing Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One on June 22. The game will also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game will feature eighteen different sporting events, which players can experience either solo or multiplayer, including online competitive games.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game will feature an Avatar Creator mode, allowing players to craft their own Olympian. This mode will include over fifty pieces of clothing for the player to deck out their character, including astronaut and pirate costumes. Sega has allowed its own mascot to appear in the game, as it's possible for players to have their Olympian wear a Sonic the Hedgehog costume during the games.

The footage of the game shows the Sonic cosplayer engaging in sports like the 100m dash, basketball, and soccer. It must be incredibly hard to play sports in a full mascot costume during the hot Tokyo summer, but like esports player Sonic Fox, it doesn't seem to dull their ability to compete. The arcade-style visuals of the games allow runners to gain a burst of flame in their footsteps, which matches the blue blur perfectly.

One of the benefits of being able to play as Sonic the Hedgehog in the 2020 Olympics is that it allows players to pretend as if they're representing the planet Mobius at the event. Players just need to make sure that they stand and put their hand over their heart when the Green Hill Zone theme is played, in lieu of an actual national anthem. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game will have a light-hearted tone for its character creator and costumes, and the online modes will ensure that Sonic the Hedgehog will be one of the hardest-working athletes at the events.
