Ahead of One Chicago has several characters not returning in 2024, which means that Chicago Fire season 13, Chicago PD season 12, and Chicago Med season 10 will be looking a little bit different. Despite that, the franchise isn't new to these cast reshuffles, so work will continue for Firehouse 51, Intelligence, and Gaffney's ER once the new seasons officially premieres at the end of September 2024.
As NBC drums up the marketing for One Chicago, a new trailer has been released, focusing on introducing Dermot Mulroney's Dom Pascal in Chicago Fire season 13 as Boden's replacement and Voight dealing with last year's trauma in Chicago PD season 12. Check out the video from One Chicago's official Instagram below:
In the One Chicago video, Voight appears to be running again from dealing with his emotions, as he buries himself in his cases with the Intelligence. Meanwhile, Pascal, despite his seemingly agreeable disposition, already creates tension within Firehouse 51.
How Firehouse 51 & Intelligence Are Different In Chicago Fire Season 13 & Chicago PD Season 12, Respectively
Big Changes Are Coming For One Chicago
The first two shows in Dick Wolf's One Chicago universe have been through massive changes in the last two years. Focusing on just its latest cycle, however, viewers can expect things will be very different for Firehouse 51 and Intelligence when the new year finally arrives. For Chicago Fire season 13, Boden's departure will definitely be a major factor, as proven by the trailer. Beyond that, however, other changes are coming for the firehouse, particularly for Kelly Severide. Aside from expressing his desire to start a family with Stella Kidd, he was also unexpectedly introduced to his half-brother, Jack Damon.
As for Chicago PD season 12, the biggest change comes on the heels of Hailey Upton's departure from Intelligence. Between this and his near-death experience in the season 11 finale, Voight is looking at an uphill battle when he comes back this September to face his trauma. Interestingly, this situation is not new for the character, considering the many tragedies he has experienced in his lifetime. However, it may be time for him to properly deal with all this pent-up grief so he can move forward with it. Otherwise, he risks being ineffective in his job.
While these changes will pose challenges for One Chicago, it's a way for NBC and Wolf Entertainment to keep the franchise fresh. All these plots will result in brand-new narratives that can be equally or even more compelling than their predecessors. Luckily, with a full season order ahead, the universe has enough time to tackle all these arcs.
