Before the 2025 One Chicago crossover, all three shows in the franchise have been telling different stories separately from each other. From the looks of it, the special isn't tied to anything that is happening right now in Chicago Fire season 13, Chicago PD season 12, and Chicago Med season 10. This means that whatever goes down in the primetime event will be contained. Unlike previous One Chicago crossovers, this one will be character-driven, with certain players finding themselves in danger as well. Among everyone, Kelly Severide may be looking at a massive loss, however.

Stella Kidd Isn't The One In Trouble

NBC has released the official trailer for the 2025 One Chicago crossover, and while it only reveals the overall premise of the narrative, there are several standout moments from it. Arguably one of the most intriguing scenes is Severide crying towards the end of the clip. It has been confirmed that Stella Kidd would be trapped in the troubled train with Intelligence's Adam Ruzek, but her husband's tears are unlikely because of her. Throughout Chicago Fire, the couple has gone through so many near-death experiences, and for the most part, they are able to keep their cool.

Severide crying means a true tragedy, and since Kidd is confirmed for the rest of Chicago Fire season 10's run, his anguish may be because of the death of someone else close to him — his brother, Jack Damon. After his firing, Benny Severide's secret son transferred firehouses and remains active. Given the severity of the tragedy, he may be part of the first-responder team from his unit when he encounters a deadly situation. Otherwise, Damon could simply be commuting when the accident happened. Whatever the case may be, the death of his brother would absolutely warrant tears from Severide.

In the end, Chief Dom Pascal fired Damon, effectively ending his stint at Firehouse 51.

While he is no longer a regular, his recent re-emergence as one of Severide's OFI students sets up a possible recurring role for him, especially if One Chicago decides to pursue an arc for his brother outside of Firehouse 51. Losing him would be devastating to Squad 3's leader, but beyond that, it could also further fuel his desire to start a family. Since learning about Damon, Severide has been enjoying fostering their dynamic. He may start to fill that void by having a child.

That said, the decision should be unanimous; it should also come from a genuine interest in starting a family. When Jack Damon's true identity as Benny Severide's son was revealed in the Chicago Fire season 12 finale, NBC and Wolf Entertainment set up an interesting situation for Severide in the show. At that point, rumors about Taylor Kinney leaving One Chicago were still swirling following his unexpected leave of absence in the previous year, which lasted for several episodes. Damon's arrival seemed like an indication that Severide would be sticking around, since the new character opened up new storytelling opportunities for her.

With Damon around, Severide had someone new to develop a dynamic with.

As a first-responder show, the people at Firehouse 51 risk their lives for a living. While Damon is no longer under Chief Pascal's team, his job remains the same. Regardless of how he ends up dying in the One Chicago crossover, the tragedy would be in line with Chicago Fire's long line of unexpected and tragic deaths. For context, its last untimely loss was when Violet Mikami's then-boyfriend, Chief Evan Hawkins died while on a call. Right now, the procedural needs to increase its stakes with demise in a call.

ittedly, killing anyone from the main cast may not be possible at this point. Chicago Fire has had many essential characters leaving in the last couple of years, and changing its current ensemble at this point is extremely risky. Taking down someone who has strong ties to a core part of Firehouse 51 is NBC and Wolf Entertainment's best option if they want to reinforce the dangers of being a firefighter. It could also heighten the drama in the One Chicago crossover, especially for Severide, who has Kidd in jeopardy as well.
