The Wolverine Will Bravely Go Where Other X-Men Cannot

Mutants need a ferocious protector now more than ever

Laura Kinney is currently starring in NYX, one of the X-Men's From the Ashes relaunch series, alongside mutant heroes Ms. Marvel, Sophie Cuckoo, Anole, and Prodigy. Wolverine, just like her father Logan, is fed up with the mistreatment that mutants receive from humans, and her first appearance in NYX makes it clear that she has no time for human heroism. Laura remains a mutant hero, fighting for the rights and safety of all mutants, which is what her missions will involve in Laura Kinney: Wolverine. Marvel describes Laura as a "one-mutant army," but warns that her increased visibility as a pro-mutant hero may put a major target on her back.

“We want to show you all different sides of Laura. There will be laughing and crying,” teased Schultz. “Laura has dealt with a lot, and when she’s met her other clones, she’s asked herself ‘Is that the person I’m supposed to be? Am I fated to be that person? Should I take my own path, or end up like Logan?’ She decides to forge her own path. This will be her solo adventure.”

"That Woman Is Gone": Marvel Confirms Wolverine's Daughter Is Gone Forever

Laura Kinney has already starred in several successful solo series, like Tom Taylor's beloved All-New Wolverine, which is where she met her own clone, Gabby Kinney. Gabby, or Scout, is an incredibly fearsome and independent young hero, with Laura's powers plus the inability to feel pain, and it would be a delight if she showed up to help Wolverine at some point in her solo series. While Laura will be acting independently in this series, there will undoubtedly be some heroic cameos! Wolverine really found her place on Krakoa, fighting as the Wolverine on an official X-Men team, and the upheaval of World War Orchis is now forcing the complex young woman to reforge her destiny.

Laura Kinney Has Come A Long Way Since Her Debut

Wolverine's past as X-23 won't define her anymore

When Laura Kinney was first introduced, she was known as X-23, a scientific experiment who was a violent, unpredictable "clone" of Wolverine. Eventually, it was revealed that Logan was actually her biological father, and Laura slowly adjusted to life as a hero, before officially becoming a Wolverine several years ago. While Laura, just like Logan, will always need to contend with her traumatic past and the berserker inside her, she has come so far as a hero and will never allow her time as X-23 to define her again.
