One Piece delivered another fantastic episode in episode #1128, and here’s everything to know about when episode #1129 will follow it up. The Egghead arc is finally heading toward the peak of its action and drama, and with how great it was in the manga, it’s sure to be even greater to watch play out in animation.

One Piece episode #1128 continued where episode #1127 left off, with Gear 5 Luffy fighting Kizaru, Zoro fighting Lucci, and the entire island fell into chaos as the Straw Hats tried to escape the Marines with Vegapunk. It seemed like things would just continue like that for a while, but everything changed when Saint Saturn appeared on Egghead in a terrifying demonic form to put an end to the battle. Episode #1128 completely changed what most people assumed to be the arc’s trajectory, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #1128 and beyond.

One Piece Episodes 1127 Review: Pure Visual And Narrative Spectacle

One Piece Episode 1127 In Review

An impact frame of Luffy in episode 1127

There was plenty of hype for One Piece episode #1127, and it more than delivered on all fronts. Narratively, not only is the story progressing with all the same great drama and comedy as the manga, but the anime managed to add even more to the writing by giving more scenes to characters like Franky and Sanji to further flesh out their arcs. The writing in One Piece episode #1127 was great for both effortlessly adapting the manga and adding even more to it, and hopefully, there’s plenty more of that to come.

Naturally, the biggest standout of One Piece episode #1127 was the animation. With legendary animator Akihiro Ota animating the fight scenes and series director Wataru Matsumi even personally directing the episode, One Piece episode #1127 had an incredible level of talent behind its production that left it as one of the best-directed and most visually gorgeous episodes of the entire anime. One Piece episode #1127 was the best episode since One Piece returned from hiatus, by far, and hopefully, fans can expect more episodes like it sooner, rather than later.

What Happened In One Piece Episode 1128?

Produced By Toei Animation; Directed By Nozomu Shishido

In One Piece episode #1128, “The Nightmare Strikes - Godhead of Science & Defense, St. Saturn”, as Bonney continued to fight against the Marines, she found herself tripped up when one of the Vice-irals used her Devil Fruit to take control of one of Pacifistas, as she couldn’t bring herself to fight a clone of her father. Fortunately, Sanji, thanks to his superhuman ability to track down women, saved Bonney before she could get hurt, and with Bonney finally secured, Vegapunk’s group was ready to make their escape from Egghead.

As Vegapunk tried to make his escape and Luffy and Zoro continued their fights with Kizaru and Lucci, a magic circle of some sort appeared on the island, and from it, Saint Saturn appeared, now taking on a giant, demonic form resembling a spider. Amidst the confusion of Saturn’s arrival, Kizaru caught up to Vegapunk’s group, but Luffy was quick to intercept Kizaru and help them escape. Luffy, however, was quickly running out of the strength to maintain Gear 5, but with the last of his strength, he unleashed a devastating attack on Kizaru that sent him flying.

Luffy fell into his exhausted post-Gear 5 state and Vegapunk’s tank crashed onto the ground, and by an unfortunate coincidence, they both ended up right in front of Saint Saturn. The focus was initially on the tense staredown between Saturn and Vegapunk, but things suddenly shifted over to Bonney, who recognized Saturn from whatever she saw within Kuma’s memories. Filled with anger over whatever it was she saw, Bonney grabbed a sword and stabbed Saint Saturn in the chest, and the episode ended on that dramatic note.

One Piece’s Anime s The Biggest Theory About The Five Elders

There's More To The Five Elders Than People Think

Saturn arrives on Egghead

There was plenty to take in with One Piece episode #1128, and the biggest was what it implied about the Five Elders. The way the Five Elders are presented in the manga has had fans questioning their abilities due to their demonic nature and how they’ve never been explicitly identified as Devil Fruits, and with how inhuman and all-around disgusting Saturn’s appearance is depicted as being, One Piece episode #1128 all but confirms that the Five Elders’ powers are unlike anything else in One Piece. What they actually are is still unclear, but it’s nonetheless exciting to see.

One Piece Perfectly Enters Its Most Dramatic Turn Yet

What Made One Piece Episode 1128 So Great

Kuma in a flashback

One Piece episode #1128 marks the Egghead arc’s most dramatic turn yet, and it was handled perfectly. Much of the drama centered around Saint Saturn ing the battle, and not only did the animation surrounding him perfectly highlight how much of a threat he was, but Bonney’s reaction to him was perfectly directed to highlight what people should expect from Kuma’s tragic backstory. Saint Saturn’s appearance in the One Piece anime was perfectly handled in every regard, and that was great to see after all the hype.

The rest of the episode, of course, was of appropriately high quality. Every fight scene, no matter how small it might have been, was perfectly paced with gorgeous artwork and animation, and in a moment people have been waiting over a year to see in animation, Luffy’s Gum-Gum Star Gun attack against Kizaru was given some of the best-looking animation in the One Piece anime to date. Episode #1128 is the end of Luffy and Kizaru’s fight for the time being, and there couldn’t have been a better way to see it happen.

Everything great about episode #1128, of course, can be attributed to its director, Nozomu Shishido. Shishido has been in charge of some of the Egghead arc’s most gorgeous episodes like episode #1089 and Luffy and Lucci’s rematch in episode #1100, and sure enough, Nozomu Shishido’s work on One Piece episode #1128 made it another visual and narrative masterpiece. The Egghead arc is set for a major tone shift with One Piece episode #1129, and overall, episode #1128 was the best way to kick that off.

Be sure to watch One Piece episode #1129 when it releases on Sunday, May 18.
