Warning: Spoilers for One Piece Chapter #1085

One Piece's ultimate villains Imu and the Five Elders (Gorosei), have been as imposing as they are mysterious, but the series' latest chapter finally saw them unleash their terrifying powers. The Egghead Island arc is the beginning of the end of the One Piece series. With the final chapter of One Piece set to release within the next few years, many of the series lingering mysteries are beginning to unravel in what author Eiichiro Oda calls the series' final saga. Chapter #1085 not only saw the secret ruler of the world, Imu, speak about the origins of the D moniker, but it also saw their and the Gorosei's awesome powers unleashed for the first time.

In chapter #1085 of One Piece, Alabasta's King Cobra's inquiry into the meaning of the D name to the Five Elders incurred the wraith of One Piece's biggest villain Imu. After revealing the true name of his ancestor, Nefertari D. Lily, Cobra was skewered by a fast and cartoonish black arrow. The attack seemingly spawned from nowhere and was able to curve in multiple directions. Suddenly, the hidden Revolutionary Army chief of staff, Sabo, intervened and unleashed a massive Fire Fist attack on the Gorosei and Imu. Instead of being burnt to a crisp, the mysterious villains in charge of the World Government emerged with dark new forms.

The Five Elders and Imu's New One Piece Forms Revealed

Manga s from One Piece chapter #1085 show Sabo standing in front of the transformed Five Elders and Imu while trying to run away with King Cobra.

One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda has been known to love drawing imposing silhouettes that he eventually fills in and adds to the story later on. Chapter #1085 featured many of those silhouettes in the form of the Five Elder's transformed states, as well as Imu's significant and over-encoming figure. Each of the Gorosei displayed transformations that closely resembled animal-like Zoan-Devil Fruit transformations, including a bull, snake, mammoth, and a large type of bird, while the fifth member's shape was more challenging to determine. However, all five of them paled in comparison to Imu's gigantic and seemingly shape-shifting beast that swallowed Sabo's attack whole.

Imu's Mysterious Power Swallowed Sabo's Fire Fist Attack Whole

Manga s from One Piece 1085 show Ace shoot a fire attack at Imu, they then transform into a large beast and swallow the attack whole.

After failing to destroy the One Piece world's most powerful villains in a single attack, Sabo attempted to retreat with a wounded King Cobra. Unfortunately, a second twisty black arrow attack resembling a devil's black tail pierced both Sabo and Cobra before they could both find safety. Still, that didn't stop Alabasta's King from making a final request to Sabo by tasking him to tell Vivi and Luffy that the Nefeltari family also bears the name of D. It remains unclear how Sabo escapes the chaotic throne room and if the two attacks were enough to finish off Alabasta's beloved King.

Despite chapter #1085 containing more action featuring Imu and the Five Elders than ever before in the series, readers still don't know what the villains are fully capable of. For years, fans have speculated how powerful the Gorosei and their Leader, Imu, could be. Now it can be said without a doubt that each of them can defend themselves, unlike the Celestial Dragons. One of the Five Elders, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, is currently on his way with iral Kizaru to Egghead Island. One Piece readers may not need to wait long to see one of the Five Elders in action again when he inevitably clashes with Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat pirates.
