- Gum-Gum King Cobra is Luffy's finishing move against Katakuri in Snake-Man Gear Fourth.
- Gum-Gum Red Hawk is seen as Luffy's new signature move in place of Gum-Gum Pistol.
- Luffy's Gum-Gum King Kong Gun is a powerful, explosive attack that defeated Doflamingo.
Throughout his journey in One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy has displayed incredible powers through the power of the Devil Fruit, giving fans some of the most intriguing and creative attacks in anime. Luffy often draws inspiration for his unique attacks from people and objects around him, making them truly a spectacle to behold.
With the revelation of Gear Five, Luffy's techniques have only gotten even wackier than before. Many of Luffy's Gear Five attacks defy logic and the rules of physics and can be best explained as the power of toon force. That said, Luffy has had some incredible techniques way before he discovered any of his Gears, each of which is distinct and instantly recognizable thanks to Luffy's habit of calling out the names of his attacks.

20 Best One Piece Anime Fights of All Time, Ranked
Since the anime's 1999 debut, One Piece has delivered dozens of epic and heartbreaking battles, and these are the top fifteen, ranked.
Gum-Gum Pistol
Debuted in chapter #1 against the Sea King and in episode #1 against Alvida
Gum-Gum Pistol has become Luffy's signature attack throughout One Piece. Luffy typically pulls back his arm for this attack and propels it forward to deal an incredibly powerful punch. Luffy displays many variations of this technique in the series, especially when used in tandem with his different Gear forms. One of those is his Jet Pistol which allows him to quickly use his attack and slam into a surprised opponent as demonstrated on Blueno at Enies Lobby.

One Piece Just Evolved Luffy's Gear 5 Again, Making It Even More Broken
One Piece's Gear Five may be much more powerful than it appears as Luffy's latest move proves the Nika Fruit can even defy time and physics.
Luffy first uses Gum-Gum Pistol against the Sea King that ate Shanks' arm as he finally sets out to sea in chapter #1 of One Piece. The technique is one that Luffy has envisioned ever since he was a child after gaining his devil fruit powers and is seen using it against Ace and Sabo in the flashback. However, Luffy couldn't quite execute it as well at the start and only perfected it after many years of training, finally living up to the claim he made to Shanks as a child that his punches were "as powerful as a pistol."
Gum-Gum Bazooka
Debuted in chapter #20 and episode #8 against Buggy
Gum-Gum Bazooka is a devastating blow that utilizes both of Luffy's arms. He draws them back and then slams them forward into his opponents. Luffy typically strikes his opponents with his palms when using the Gum-Gum Bazooka technique which usually sends them flying away comically.
Luffy has used this technique in various parts of the series, though his first usage of it and perhaps the most memorable moment was when he defeated Buggy, sending the pirate far away from Orange Town. At one point, thanks to Gear Second, Luffy is even able to use this attack in quick succession making it all the more dangerous. Luffy also uses a variation of the Gum-Gum Bazooka against Wapol at Drum Island, using the technique to fling Wapol away from Drum Island, never to return to the Sakura Kingdom again.
Gum-Gum Elephant Gun
Debuted in chapter #605 and episode #525 against the Kraken
Like many of Luffy's techniques after training during the time skip, Luffy's Gum-Gum Elephant Gun is named after an animal. This technique allows Luffy to blow up either his hand or foot like a balloon and perform a powerful blow. This has been used in multiple scenarios like his battle against the Kraken on the way to Fishman Island.
One interesting hypothesis is that Luffy's animal-themed attacks may be inspired by the animals he fought during the time-skip while training with Rayleigh.
This attack is one of the few Luffy is notable for having in Gear Third but it's extremely helpful for some of Luffy's later techniques that he uses against opponents like Kaido and Doflamingo. Luffy also uses a variation of this technique against Don Chinjao in the Colosseum battle at Dressrosa called the Gum-Gum Thor Elephant Gun. This attack was powerful enough to disfigure Chinjao's head back into its original shape despite the powerful Armament Haki coating it.
Gum-Gum Bajrang Gun
Debuted in chapter #1048 and episode #1075 against Kaido
This is the technique that has made many fans draw comparisons of Luffy to Sun Wukong, the Monkey King from Journey to the West. This is Luffy's strongest move yet in the series and the technique he used to defeat Kaido. Much like Zoro and his best techniques, Luffy is constantly putting together what he learns to perform his strongest attacks. This is what he does in his battle against Kaido combining the different types of Haki and mixing knowledge of his previous Gears into his power.
The Gum-Gum Bajrang Gun also bears a striking resemblance to an attack from Stampede called King King King Kong Gun, which Luffy uses to defeat Douglas Bullet, the primary antagonist of the film. In that sense, while the Gum-Gum Bajrang Gum may not be Gear Five's most unique attack visually, its certainly is a grand finishing move that doesn't fall short in sheer power and destructiveness.
Gum-Gum Lightning
Debuted in chapter #1046 and episode #1073 against Kaido
This technique isn't one Luffy can conjure or do offhand and was simply one he was able to do given the setting of his battle. This technique is simply a prelude to what fans will get to see Luffy do in the future. In his battle against Kaido, which was one of the best fights during the Wano arc, Luffy jumps into the air and catches a lightning bolt. He is then able to transform this into his rubber properties and make the attack his own.
While the rest of Gear Five's techniques are just as ridiculous, the Gum-Gum Lightning truly takes the cake, painting Luffy in an all-new terrifying light. This move single-handedly proves that Luffy's awakened powers are truly beyond the scope of imagination, capable of manipulating even intangible things such as lightning according to his whims.
Gum-Gum Giant
Debuted in chapter #1045 and episode #1072 against Kaido
Like with Luffy catching the lightning bolt, Luffy demonstrates many new unique abilities in his battle against Kaido. While this new technique was only briefly used, it's a perfect demonstration of Luffy's new powers. Previously, Luffy was only able to increase certain parts of his body like his belly or one of his fists, but with Gear Five, he demonstrates that he can now enlarge his entire body.
Gum-Gum Giant is easily one of the most exciting techniques from Luffy's battle against Kaido and will surely come into play later in the series, especially as Luffy faces off against bigger and more powerful opponents. Furthermore, the Egghead Arc of One Piece has revealed that the Giants of Elbaf are also one of the few races who have ed down the legend of Nika teasing that there could be some deeper significance to the Gum-Gum Giant move.
Gum-Gum King Cobra
Debuted in chapter #895 and episode #870
Luffy's battles grew more and more intense throughout the series. His fight against Katakuri is one of those and gave fans one of the best long anime shonen fights ever. With his final attack, Luffy uses an attack called Gum-Gum King Cobra in the Snake-Man version of Gear Fourth. This attack twirled through the area until it finally landed its target on Katakuri.
The attack resembles the animal that has its namesake well, taking the form of a golden snake in the anime, and barely allowed Luffy victory over the towering Sweet Commander. The Gum-Gum King Cobra attack is Luffy's finishing move against Katakuri, who barely manages to stand up for a few seconds before ing out after receiving the hit. The move also appears in the movie Stampede, where Luffy incorporates more zigzags and twirls before finally releasing the attack, which adds to its speed and unpredictability.
Gum-Gum Jet Gatling
Debuted in chapter #427 and episode #309 against Rob Lucci
Enies Lobby will forever be ed as one of the best arcs in One Piece and Luffy's usage of Gear Second against Rob Lucci is just as memorable as everything else in the arc. What is likely the strongest attack Luffy had demonstrated up until this point in the series was the technique Gum-Gum Jet Gatling. This was the perfect display of Luffy's willpower, strength, and new ability. His fists moved rapidly, slamming into the Zoan-type finally defeating him in one of the most dramatic battles of One Piece.
Luffy also uses Gum-Gum Jet Gatling against Boa Hancock's sisters at Amazon Lily.
As signified by the inclusion of the word "Jet" in the name, this technique is a Gear Second-enhanced version of Luffy's regular Gum-Gum Gatling attack and has continued to evolve throughout the series, giving rise to many different versions. Some of these include Gum-Gum Elephant Gatling, Gum-Gum Hawk Gatling, Gum-Gum Kong Gatling, and the most recent addition, Gum-Gum Dawn Gatling.
Gum-Gum Red Hawk
Debuted in chapter #644 and episode #565 against Hody
Gum-Gum Red Hawk has become a recurring attack of Luffy's in One Piece and many fans see it as the replacement of Luffy's Gum-Gum Pistol as his new signature technique. Luffy pulls back his arm with coated Armament Haki until it ignites with flames. He then deals with a powerful punch. Luffy first uses this attack against Hody Jones during the Fishman Island Arc. The technique then makes another notable appearance in Wano against Holdem while rescuing Otama.
The technique was beautifully displayed in the anime by giving a silhouette of Ace's Fire Fist behind Luffy, a symbol of Luffy carrying on his brother's will. This comparison is also noted by Tama in the Wano arc as she re her old friend Ace. That said, the move makes its most impactful appearance during the scene where Luffy punches Kaido with Red Hawk after finally reaching the rooftop on Onigashima, which also makes for one of the best scenes in the Wano Arc.
Gum-Gum King Kong Gun
Debuted in chapter #790 and episode #733 against Doflamingo
With this technique, Luffy draws his arm back in the Bounceman version of Gear Fourth and enlargens his fist with Armament and Conqueror's Haki. He then propels his fists forward, firing them like a massive fist and cannon. This technique clearly inspired the punch that defeated Kaido, but it's difficult to top the original.
Luffy's Gum-Gum King Kong Gun was one of Luffy's most explosive attacks that handily defeated Doflamingo once and for all. Its sheer power is apparent from the fact that it was able to hurl Doflamingo across the city despite his powerful Haki. Luffy also uses King Kong Gun against Katakuri where the attack was arguably just as effective and destructive. It might have been enough to defeat Katakuri as well if not for his advanced Observation Haki and Future Sight that forced Luffy to improvise.
