New One Piece Odyssey gameplay footage was shown at Summer Game Fest 2022, giving fans a glimpse at the Straw Hat Pirates in action, as they explore a mysterious new island. One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based RPG that is based on one of the biggest anime and manga franchises in the world.

One Piece Odyssey involves the Straw Hat Pirates being shipwrecked on an island, with the Thousand Sunny left badly in need of repairs. Luffy and his friends must search the island for a means of escape and they soon encounter bizarre monsters that are guarding mysterious ruins. The game is the latest in the ever-expanding roster of One Piece video games, and will offer a JRPG-focused take on the universe. One Piece Odyssey will feature playable versions of Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook. Jinbei is not listed among the playable characters of One Piece Odyssey, as he ed the Straw Hats during the period when the game would have entered development.

One Piece Odyssey appeared at Summer Game Fest 2022, seen on the official The Game Awards YouTube channel. The new gameplay footage showed more of what fans can expect from the game. The trailer shows the Straw Hat's ship being shot up to a Sky Island, before crashing down into the water. The trailer also revealed some of the new characters who will be appearing in the game, all of whom have been designed by One Piece author Eiichiro Oda.

The new gameplay footage for One Piece Odyssey showed the player controlling different of the Straw Hat crew, as they explore the new island. with Chopper using his small size to traverse tunnels, and Luffy battling wild animals. The player will also need to solve puzzles, as Luffy is shown lining up some gaudy electronic devices to open a door. The trailer concludes with the Straw Hats fighting a strange golem-like creature, who is brimming with green magical energy.

The fact that One Piece Odyssey has been created with the aid of the author of One Piece means that fans should be excited for what's to come. It's unlikely that the game will answer any of the lingering questions about the series, but the fact that its story doesn't have to be bound to the weekly manga schedule means that Oda can let his imagination run wild, and let the developers do the rest. The fact that One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based JRPG also means that the series can escape from the action and fighting genres that it's so often associated with.
