One Piece season 2 is set to take another big dip into that pool.
Crocodile, One Piece's next live-action villain, will be instrumental in bringing new secrets out into the open. As the leader of Baroque Works and a member of the Seven Warlords alongside season 1's Dracule Mihawk, Crocodile is infinitely more connected to the fabric of One Piece mythology than the previous main villain, Arlong. Crocodile's presence will open Luffy's eyes to dangers he never dared imagine, and legends of the sea that will define his journey to becoming Pirate King. One of those dangers will become a far bigger deal when One Piece season 5 rolls around.
One Piece Season 2's Crocodile Will Introduce The Mystery Of Pluton
The Ancient Weapons Will Be A New Concept For One Piece Seasons 2 & 3
Crocodile is something of an enigmatic figure in One Piece. Initially, his goal appears to be monetary gain, since Baroque Works is an underground criminal organization fronted by a large casino. Behind that facade, however, Crocodile is intent on forcibly seizing control of the kingdom of Alabasta, deposing the current rulers and oppressing its people. Curiously, taking over a country is not the bottom line of Crocodile's grand plan. Crocodile wants Alabasta mainly because he believes it holds the secret to possessing an ancient weapon known as Pluton.
Pluton in live-action will begin a mystery that only comes to fruition three or four seasons down the road.
Pluton is one of three legendary, supposedly unstoppable weapons in One Piece, with the other two being Neptune and Uranus. When combined, the weapons are said to have enough power to reshape the world, and that is the treasure Crocodile ultimately seeks. Even on the Grand Line, the existence of these three weapons has been lost to the tides of time. Only a small handful of characters know what the weapons actually are, and even fewer know where to find them, which explains why Crocodile will go to such great lengths in One Piece season 2's Alabasta arc.

I Need One Piece Season 2 To Answer Two Crocodile Questions The Manga Has Ignored For Over 1000 Chapters
The introduction of Joe Manganiello's Crocodile in One Piece season 2 provides the perfect opportunity to answer two questions the manga has not.
Since Luffy's journey does not end at Alabasta, it should come as no surprise that the good guys win and Crocodile's plan to obtain Pluton is foiled. Nevertheless, the introduction of Pluton in live-action will begin a mystery that only comes to fruition three or four seasons down the road.
Pluton Will Become A Main Feature Of One Piece Season 5
From A Background Detail In Season 2 To The Main MacGuffin Of One Piece Season 5
One Piece can introduce Pluton in season 2, but only as a vague whisper. Since Netflix's season will only cover the One Piece manga up to Drum Kingdom, season 3 will be dedicated to the Alabasta arc. Logically, One Piece season 4 will then tackle Skypiea, leaving season 5 to move onto Water 7, and it is here that the Pluton mystery will resurface in a major way.
It won't be until One Piece season 5 and the reveal of Pluton's blueprints that the full scale and threat of Crocodile's plot will be understood.
Another island on One Piece's Grand Line, Water 7 is renowned for its shipyards. It transpires that Pluton is actually a vast, powerful warship, and the blueprints used to construct it are hidden safely in Water 7. The premise of the arc involves rogue agents within the World Government seeking those blueprints in the hope of recreating Pluton and staging a coup, leaving Monkey D. Luffy and his allies to stop them.
The same villains looking for Pluton's blueprints also want to kidnap Straw Hat member Nico Robin.
Live-action One Piece viewers will, therefore, be forced to wait a long time between first hearing the name "Pluton" uttered onscreen, and actually seeing that storyline unfold in a meaningful way. Equally, it won't be until One Piece season 5 and the reveal of Pluton's blueprints that the full scale and threat of Crocodile's plot will be understood.
One Piece Season 2's Pluton Reference Will Set Up A Brand-New Straw Hat
A First Sign Of Franky In Live-Action
One Piece season 2 introducing Pluton will represent the first step on a road that will eventually lead to a new character ing the Straw Hat Pirates: Franky. Two additional crew have already been confirmed for One Piece in season 2 - Nico Robin and Tony Tony Chopper, and Franky will be the next to after that. A shipwright himself, Water 7 reveals Franky as the secret keeper of Pluton's blueprints, meaning his enemies and the enemies of the Straw Hats are the same, and an unlikely alliance is thereby formed.

One Piece Season 2 Release Window Teases How Long Netflix's Show Will Take To Adapt The Entire Story
As One Piece season 2's potential release date sails closer, it's possible to figure out roughly how long Netflix will take to adapt the entire story.
By this point in One Piece's story, it becomes perfectly clear that the Straw Hats are in dire need of someone who can fix their ship. After cooperating with Franky in Water 7 during the Pluton incident, he becomes the natural next addition to Luffy's crew, and he still holds that position in the One Piece manga now.

Just as One Piece season 1's Baroque Works mention set up Nico Robin, and Zoro almost being killed by Mihawk set up the need for a doctor like Chopper, season 2's Pluton introduction will be the trigger for Franky, albeit one that will take longer to actually happen.
I'm Not Sure Live-Action One Piece Will Ever Fully Solve The Ancient Weapons Mystery
It's A Story Even The Manga Hasn't Resolved Yet
While the mystery of what Pluton is and who knows about it will rumble on until One Piece season 5, the live-action series is unlikely to ever reveal the full nature of the ancient weapons - largely because, after more than 1100 chapters, the manga series hasn't either.
Unless Netflix's One Piece beats the odds to adapt the entirety of Oda's tale, therefore, the mystery of the ancient weapons will never be completely cleared up.
The weapon Neptune is unveiled in the Fishman Island arc, which would fall somewhere around One Piece season 8 or 9 in live-action. Neptune is revealed to be a mermaid called Shirahoshi, who holds the power to control massive underwater sea king monsters. Luffy befriends Shirahoshi, leaving little doubt over what Neptune is and what it's capable of. While Water 7 reveals where the blueprints for Pluton are hidden, the location of the original ship itself isn't disclosed until the Wano arc, which would theoretically form the basis of One Piece season 11 or 12.
Uranus, however, remains a total mystery, and is the only ancient weapon One Piece has never explained in any form, even as the manga heads into its final stretch. Unless Netflix's One Piece beats the odds to adapt the entirety of Oda's tale, therefore, the mystery of the ancient weapons will never be completely cleared up.
