Apple's AirTag, according to a report. Tracker technology has certainly received a boost of popularity since Apple launched its entry into the market. With OnePlus expanding its ecosystem of products, it's no huge surprise that a tracker might be in the works, but the jury is out on whether it could make a success of such a device.

For the vast majority of the time since it was founded in 2013, OnePlus has focused on smartphones. Over the last year, though, it has been gradually expanding into other areas. It's launched its first wireless earbuds, the OnePlus Watch. With its competitors launching tracking devices, it's perhaps no surprise that OnePlus is seeking to capture some of that market too.

DroidMaze reports that OnePlus has ed a trademark for a device called the OnePlusTag. The trademark was filed on May 18, suggesting the company may have been working on a product for some time now. It's important to note that a trademark does not always mean a product will be released but, at the very least, it hints at the company's interest in developing one. There's no indication of when OnePlus will release a tracker if indeed it does.

What Would A OnePlus Tracker Be Like?

Following its recent launch, Apple's AirTag has certainly taken center stage in the tracker market. The popular product is built for Apple s, though, rather than others using Android, meaning other firms like OnePlus have an opportunity to fill the gap. If OnePlus does release a tracking device, it's likely it would do so at a lower price than the AirTag, which cost $29 each before any additional accessories. OnePlus has traditionally sought to develop quality devices at a lower price point than its competitors.

A competitive price doesn't guarantee popularity, though, and OnePlus doesn't have as much of a market as Apple or even Samsung. Competing with products from bigger companies, like Tile's offerings that are gaining Amazon Sidewalk , could provide tough for OnePlus. If OnePlus does launch its own tracker, it may be that it seeks to cater to its own s, rather than competing directly in the tracker market.
