With season 2 of the Hulu series Only Murders In The Building about to premiere at the end of June 2022, fans are anticipating another solid, hilarious, and smart batch of episodes. In the season 1 finale, Mabel Mora, Oliver Putnam, and Charles Haden-Savage are suspects in the murder of Bunny, the building manager of the beautiful and elegant Arconia building in New York City.
Before diving into season 2, it's fun to look back on season 1 and see what characters and plot points are the building blocks for these new episodes when the trio has to solve Bunny's murder and save themselves.
Who Is Making Charles, Mabel And Oliver Take The Fall For Bunny's Murder?
There seems to be proof that Charles, Mabel and Oliver have killed Bunny, as when her body is discovered, she has a tie-dye sweatshirt on, which is the same brand and design that Oliver sold to fans of the podcast. The murder weapon is a needle that Mabel uses for knitting. However, viewers know that someone is attempting to make the three characters take the fall.
The final scene of season 1 sets up season 2 perfectly, showing Charles, Oliver and Mabel getting arrested, which suggests that someone is after them and wants them to get into big trouble.
Residents With Secrets (Like Jan)
Murder mystery TV show tropes include characters who are hiding a lot of secrets, and that's exactly what happens in season 1 when Charles falls for his neighbor Jan and then finds out that she killed Tim Kono.
When fans start watching season 2, they know that anyone is a suspect and that many Arconia residents have deep, dark secrets that they would do anything to protect. This makes the experience of watching the show even more fun.
The Podcast Fans Are Watching The Three Characters
The episode "Fan Fiction" is sweet and funny, as Mabel, Oliver, and Charles meet their biggest fans, who camp outside the Arconia and hope to meet them.
Because the fans love listening to the podcast so much and want to meet their idols in person, it's possible that this foreshadows these characters playing a bigger role in season 2. Maybe they will start investigating themselves, especially since everyone thinks that their idols have committed a crime.
Cinda Canning's True Crime Podcast
Cinda Canning hosts a podcast called Only Murderers In The Building and since she will return in season 2, it seems possible that Cinda could continue to watch the main characters and see the tough and tricky situation that they're in.
Cinda is a hilarious, strong, tough, and conceited character who wants nothing more than to take the three main characters down. It seems likely that Cinda will continue to circle and target them since she wants to use them to become more famous.
Mabel, Charles Or Oliver Could Have Ties To Bunny
One of the biggest Only Murders plot twists is that Tim and Mabel were once good friends and she would visit him every summer at the Arconia. This suggests that in season 2, viewers could find out that one of the three main characters has a deeper connection to Bunny than anyone previously thought.
Since it's such a big deal when it turns out that Mabel was close with Tim, it could come out that Charles or Oliver used to be friends with Bunny. Perhaps they crossed or betrayed someone who knows her, and that person is the killer.
The Arconia Remains The Perfect Mysterious Setting
Season 1 also sets up season 2 by creating a flawless setting, as the Arconia couldn't possibly be more beautiful, old-fashioned, or mysterious.
When season 2 opens, viewers will be treated to the same location which becomes more and more compelling the deeper than fans get into the know. While there is of course crime elsewhere in New York City, the show does a good job of showing how unique the Arconia is since the residents live there for several years or even decades and never want to leave.
Detective Williams Is Skeptical Of Mabel, Charles And Oliver
Detective Williams is one of the best Only Murders In The Building characters and she's convinced that Mabel, Charles and Oliver had something to do with Tim's death.
It seems likely that Williams will think, along with the residents of the Arconia, that the trio was involved, and she will think that it's strange that two residents in the same building would be murdered so close together. This sets up Williams investigating the characters in season 2.
Mabel's Sad Past And Friendship With Zoe And Tim
It's heartbreaking learning that Mabel and Tim formed a group called "The Hardy Boys" and had to say goodbye to their friend Zoe, which died a terrible death. Because fans learn more and more about Mabel's past, it's possible that this means that there will be even more backstory about Mabel in season 2.
While Only Murders In The Building is a funny show, it's also heartfelt and emotional, with episodes exploring Mabel's pain and the loss that she has dealt with. It seems likely that Mabel will be fleshed out even more and her character will experience more growth and development in season 2.
New Characters Will Be Red Herrings
There are many likable characters in Only Murders In The Building season 1 and there are new characters ing in season 2, including Mabel's love interest Alice, played by Cara Delevingne. Amy Schumer will also play Mabel, Charles and Oliver's neighbor at the Arconia.
Thriller and horror fans are often used to red herrings, as there is sometimes a character who seems most likely to be the killer, and then they turn out to be totally innocent. It's likely that at least one new character could seem like a suspect but they actually had nothing to do with Bunny's death.
The Awkward Resident Meeting
In the season 1 episode "Double Time," the residents of the Arconia have a meeting as they aren't fans of the podcast and they want people to stop paying so much attention to the building.
This is an important plot point for season 2, as the residents are clearly suspicious of Mabel, Charles and Oliver. It makes sense that they would think that they have a motive when it comes to Bunny's murder as well.
