Both shows feature one main setting, the Arconia and the charm-filled town of Stars Hollow, along with beloved characters who are equally funny and intelligent. There are many similarities between the characters on both series.
Bunny Folger = Emily Gilmore
It's easy to imagine Emily Gilmore taking on Bunny's role as the Arconia Board President, as both characters are tough, stubborn, and enjoy being in charge and organizing people. Emily's smartest Gilmore Girls quotes show that she never takes no for an answer and doesn't like when people don't think as carefully about situations as she does.
In the season 2 episode "The Last Day of Bunny Folger," viewers learn that Bunny was kinder than she seemed and that she was incredibly lonely before her death. Emily shares that feeling and often longs for her daughter to be a bigger part of her life.
Oscar Torres = Jess Mariano
Both Oscar Torres and Jess Mariano were misunderstood in their youth, as people thought that they were rebellious and didn't trust them. When Mabel sees Oscar again, he has been released from prison where he was wrongfully accused of killing their friend Zoe Cassidy.
Oscar and Jess are sweet, intelligent, and comionate and they both deserve to be given a chance. They both come back into Mabel and Rory's lives after they haven't seen each other in a long time.
Howard Morris = Kirk Gleason
Mabel, Oliver, and Charles sometimes bump into their neighbor Howard Morris, who shares the quirks of Kirk Gleason from Gilmore Girls. Both Howard and Kirk like being part of their community but don't always feel like they fit in.
Howard and Kirk also each have cats, with Howard often talking about his pets and Kirk adopts a cat in season 3 and names it "Cat Kirk." It seems like both Howard and Kirk have cats who can be a bit tough to take care of.
Nina Lin = Paris Geller
Nina Lin becomes a bigger part of Only Murders In The Building in season 2 when she takes over Bunny's job as Board President. While Paris Geller has hilarious Gilmore Girls quotes and Nina is more serious, the two do share some things in common.
Nina and Paris are both stubborn, tough, smart, and used to bossing people around. When Bunny suggests to Nina that she would like to keep her position, Nina isn't happy about that at all, much like how Paris loves being in charge of the Yale Daily News and hates when Rory takes over from her. At this point in Only Murders in the Building, viewers aren't sure if Nina is guilty or innocent.
Alice Banks = Lucy
Mabel meets Alice Banks in season 2 when Alice asks her to come to an event at her art gallery and the two begin dating. Alice has some things in common with Gilmore Girls character Lucy, who Rory meets while attending Yale.
Alice and Lucy are both creative, confident, and fun-loving people who care deeply about art and sharing it with others. Lucy is an actor who is ionate about what she does, and she enjoys socializing and throwing or attending parties like Alice does.
Will Putnam = Dean Forester
Oliver's son Will Putnam has a good heart and is concerned about Oliver, whose work as a director has dried up and is in danger of being kicked out of the Arconia. Will is as kind as Rory's first boyfriend, Dean Forester.
Both characters try to do the right thing and they are voices of reason among some more outgoing characters. Will and Dean also both love family and feel a strong connection to their relatives. Dean is always looking out for his younger sister and when Rory sees him again in A Year in the Life, he loves being a husband and father.
Tim Kono = Logan Huntzberger
It's shocking to learn that Jan killed Tim Kono, who is one of the best Only Murders in yhe Building characters. Tim and Logan Huntzberger share a few things in common as they both have wealth, a mysterious vibe, and an overall confident personality.
Mabel always thought that there was more to Tim than she knew about, and Rory often wonders what Logan is thinking since he has a love of adventure and doesn't always talk about his feelings.
Oliver Putnam = Christopher Hayden
Oliver is a fascinating and dynamic character who loves Broadway and has fun working on the podcast. He's friendly, incredibly outgoing, and optimistic no matter what is going on. Even when Oliver should be more worried about a situation, he has a good attitude and feels that things will work out.
Oliver can be a little unrealistic, which is a lot like Christopher Hayden. While Christopher loves Lorelai and Rory, he doesn't always do what he says he will, and Oliver and Christopher both forget about reality sometimes.
Charles-Haden Savage = Luke Danes
Charles is one of the smartest Only Murders in the Building characters and while of course he would rather not be involved in solving two murders, Charles enjoys getting to know Oliver and Mabel and feeling like he has a place in the world again.
While Charles and Luke are different in some ways, as Charles starred on the sitcom Brazzos and Luke Danes is devoted to his amazing diner, they share a kind personality and a sense of duty, loyalty, and responsibility. They are both people who others can count on anytime.
Mabel Mora = Rory Gilmore
Mabel is more confident and secure than Rory Gilmore and also a bit more independent, as she has been living on her own for a while and fixing up her aunt's apartment. But ultimately, the two characters are good friends to the people in their lives and they want to be there for others.
Mabel and Rory both take long-term friendships seriously, as Mabel cares about Oscar and thinks about Tim and Zoe all the time. Rory has always made Lane Kim a big part of her life and feels comion toward Paris, too. Mabel and Rory are also very likable and popular.
