An update for the Complaints about Outriders' performance have largely focused on the intrusive motion blur. Motion blur has been a controversial feature of games due to the performance tradeoff usually associated with it. When implemented well, motion blur can disguise issues that developers don't want players to see in the game. These issues include screen tearing, low-resolution graphics, and making the game blurry while moving.
When the option is turned off, a feature generally associated with PC games typically sees an increase in their FPS and adds more stability. Other features similar to this are chromatic aberration and v-sync, all of which contribute to the same issues that motion blur tries to hide. Most developers that use motion blur do so in conjunction with lens flare and film grain techniques to give a more cinematic vision to the game.
on the PlayStation version of Outriders, the "Buy Now" button in the lobby and audio desynchronization during cutscenes were fixed. On PC, menu crashes, audio, and subtitle synchronization during the "Bad Day" quest and a bug that deletes player gear were all resolved.
Motion blur usually does more harm than intended to the game, and in Outriders, turning too quickly or sprinting towards enemies can make the hectic scene unreadable at times. However, the option seems more for players on older hardware than those playing on PS5 or a decent gaming rig. However, at least by the demo's standards, turning off motion blur makes the game feel smoother than applied. Unfortunately, this patch does not allow the option to remove or reduce the screen shaking effect.
As the game approaches release, it will be interesting to see what other changes are made to the demo since progression will carry over to the full game. Like the screen-shaking mentioned above or some of the uninteresting abilities in certain classes in Outriders, many of its problems could be better. But developers People Can Fly and Square Enix have already put a good foot forward in recognizing what their community is complaining about – even in just the demo.
Outriders will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles, Stadia and PC on April 1.
