Some crafty World of Warcraft's digital gold into the currently costly OW2 coins. Overwatch 2's multiplayer hit a few road bumps in the month since its release. With loot boxes no longer in the picture with the new free-to-play model, players must slowly earn or buy Overwatch coins to unlock character skins and other cosmetics. Certain players have found a way to use their World of Warcraft skills to earn Overwatch 2 coins without grinding through OW2 challenges.

Blizzard allows World of Warcraft players to use their in-game gold to buy tokens which can be converted into Battle.net currency. That currency can then be used to purchase Blizzard games or other in-game currencies like Overwatch coins. This means WoW players who know about gold farming or have hoarded loads of the shiny currency over the years can use it to unlock Overwatch 2 coins for free. As Reported by Game Rant, Reddit Everdale brought attention to the tactic on the Overwatch subreddit. WoW tokens fluctuate in value when bought with in-game gold, but each token converts to $15 in Battle.net currency.

Players Can Earn Overwatch Coins Faster In WoW Than In Overwatch

A large pile of gold coins and treasure chests in World of Warcraft.

Since Overwatch 2 launched, players have grown frustrated with the price of in-game unlockables. Some players highlighted the fact that OW2's cosmetics are more expensive than real-world plastic toys based on the same in-game items. Because of these high prices, players are anxious to find ways to play Overwatch 2 without spending real money. However, using or farming World of Warcraft gold does require time, energy, and a WoW subscription. Players of the MMORPG knowledgeable in earning gold will likely take a lot less time to earn their $15 in Battle.net currency than it would take to earn OW2 coins with challenges.

The shift from Overwatch to Overwatch 2's free-to-play model has been met with various growing pains. However, the cross-platform multiplayer shooter is still managing to attract a large number of players. Popular heroes like Mercy have been reworked like many of the game's cast to make gameplay faster, especially with the removal of abilities that slow down or stun enemy players. With the game's second season beginning December 6 and the new Overwatch 2 tank hero Ramattra promising to shake up the game's meta, players will likely continue to sink hours into OW2 despite the long grind to unlock coins and unlock gear.

Players can currently earn up to 60 Overwatch coins every week by completing weekly challenges, which is, unfortunately, a drop in the bucket when certain character skins cost more than 2000 coins. Without spending $10.00 on 1000 coins, it would take a player more than 43 weeks of completing weekly challenges to unlock bundles like the Legendary Halloween-themed Witch Kiriko. Hopefully, Blizzard will re-evaluate its shop prices now that the players are currently able to earn coins faster by playing World of Warcraft and not Overwatch 2.
