Even though Despite controversies and Overwatch 2's rough launch, Blizzard's team shooter's sequel is proving to provide the same charming experience as its predecessor. Blizzard has already begun to make up for its mistakes regarding the title by promising a free skin and additional XP for players to rank up in the Battle , and the long-awaited PvE mode will release next year.

Even though fans were promised an Overwatch sequel, Overwatch 2's general gameplay and feel are pretty much exactly the same as Overwatch - which is what most veteran players were expecting. That being said, the new Battle model (replacing OW's controversial Loot Boxes), 5v5 matches, colorful maps, powerful heroes, and D.Va's toxic Overwatch 2 personality are changing the formula of the first game, for better or worse. OW2 has arguably revitalized the Overwatch franchise, attracting millions of new players.

Overwatch 2 is free-to-play, but its predecessor cost $40 upon its release and gradually got down to $20. The original Overwatch is now non-existent, but Reddit raistwalls1 revealed that some retailers are still selling it, as reported by Eurogamer. The original post included an image of Overwatch Legendary Edition on a shelf, with the caption "What happens to people who buy this without knowing." raistwalls1 mentions that both Xbox and Playstation versions were in stock. s in the replies claim that the physical copy will install, but it will boot up as the free Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 Introduced Battle and Microtransactions

Although the Legendary Edition does include 15 hero skins that could possibly transfer to OW2, marketing a title that doesn't exist still doesn't seem right, especially when its newer version is available for free. That being said, Overwatch 2 players must spend money in order to access the tiers of the Battle and gain access to cosmetics that could originally be unlocked in Loot Boxes, so the skins that Overwatch Legendary Edition would bestow will cost money either way.

There have been rumors that other retailers are destroying their physical copies of Overwatch or dropping the prices extremely low, so seeing it for sale at normal prices is strange and could be considered unethical. Now that Overwatch 2 features a Battle that will renew every 9 weeks in place of the first game's Loot Boxes, the Overwatch franchise has become riddled with microtransactions, so there's no use in paying for its depleted version. Now that players can finally to the sequel, many are excited to see the future of Blizzard's team shooter and what Overwatch 2's next playable characters and Battle might be.
