In Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, a few interesting puzzles are found inside some confusing time loops. These puzzles appear in the first half of the game, as Riley figures out the basics of the alternate dimension and learns what she has to do to preserve reality. Their appearance is quite deceptive. They require a change in mindset to solve.
There are three time loop puzzles in Oxenfree II, appearing in the earlier hours of the game. The first two appear after Riley does in Oxenfree II, places the first transmitter, and connects to the portal above Edwards Island. The third appears when players head for Charity Point with Jacob. The first puzzle is the clue to solving the other two puzzles.
How The Time Loop Puzzles Work In Oxenfree II
When solving the time loop puzzles in Oxenfree II, players try to align complex geometric shapes with one another. The first puzzle introduces this concept to Riley by having her move two rectangles into the center of the screen. The other two puzzles open up with a mess of static. Meddling with this static can easily create a simple, neat soundwave. This tricks players into thinking they need to shape the soundwave when they need to disrupt it and transform it into a geometric shape, just like in the first puzzle.
All three puzzles in Oxenfree II use strange machines that were not there before the time loop. When Riley uses the machines, players will get a small, circular screen featuring geometric shapes or static. They will also get four knobs, with the left and right knobs connected to the left and right controllers on the player's chosen device. Players need to carefully manipulate the knobs to get their geometric shape aligned with the one provided by the machine.
How To Solve The Time Loop Puzzles In Oxenfree II
The first time loop puzzle in Oxenfree II is found on the bridge beside the burning general store in Uptown Center after players speak with Evelyn and Olivia (the blonde teenager who leaves the general store). This is the puzzle that teaches players how to use the machines. Players should take a moment to familiarize themselves with how their chosen console interacts with the knobs. Once they understand what controls what, they'll need to move the green and yellow shapes to align with the gray shape in the middle of the circular screen.
The second puzzle in Oxenfree II is left of the burning general store beside the stone wall. This is when players are introduced to some strange static and may get tricked into creating sound waves. However, instead of merely moving the left controls up and down, players need to push the left control all the way to the right.
At that point, moving the knob up and down will transform the static into a messed-up green shape. Moving the right knob will reveal the red shape players need to align the green shape to. By carefully moving the controls at this point, players can turn the green blob into a twin of the red shape and align the pair. This will end the first time loop in Oxenfree II.
Players encounter the second time loop in Charity Point when they run into Violet on the bridge. The machine Riley needs is to the right of Jacob, who is trapped in a possessed daze. Players will want to repeat the same strategy they used for the second time loop puzzle, pushing the left knob to the left and right before aligning the new yellow shape to the red shape that appears by manipulating the right knob. Align the shapes, and the time loop will end. Once players have solved the three puzzles, they will be slightly closer to figuring out Oxenfree II.
