Paddington 4 being confirmed by studio executives all but spoils the mystery of Aunt Lucy's fate in Paddington in Peru.

Paddington in Peru will be the third chapter in the young bear's cinematic adventures, yet it is at risk after Olivia Colman may be Paddington 3's latest villain, the franchise is broadening its horizons, and steering away from the London setting, which may hugely benefit the story.

Paddington 4 Suggests That Aunt Lucy Is Safe In Paddington In Peru

It's Unlikely That Paddington's Aunt Is In Any Severe Danger

Paddington in Peru is shaping up to be quite the journey and promises a cascade of trouble for Paddington's next adventure, with StudioCanal's trailer suggesting that Aunt Lucy is in grave danger. The trailer presents the concept of a legend that foretells a bear who will lead the way to the mythical lost city of El Dorado, in order to discover what has happened to his aunt. The majority of clips from Paddington in Peru withhold information on the elder bear, but speaking with BBC News, Whishaw confirmed that audiences would discover Aunt Lucy's fate.

It seems more likely that Aunt Lucy's quest may be to connect with her late husband, Uncle Pastuzo.

Meanwhile, although the Paddington villains are the movie's greatest strengths, the roles of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant ultimately never pose any real threat to the young bear's escapades. As a result, it's clear that Aunt Lucy's safety is guaranteed. It's also glaringly obvious that writing Aunt Lucy out of the franchise would not fit with the tone of a family-friendly movie, while the premature confirmation of Paddington 4 further proves she will come out unscathed. It seems more likely that Aunt Lucy's quest may be to connect with her late husband, Uncle Pastuzo (Michael Gambon).

Aunt Lucy May Be More Involved In Paddington 4

Aunt Lucy Could Relocate To Live With The Browns

Aunt Lucy has always been integral within the franchise, particularly concerning Paddington's motivations. Paddington 2 concentrates its efforts on Aunt Lucy, as Paddington finds himself incarcerated whilst trying to gain possession of a birthday gift for his aunt. While there are numerous poignant moments throughout the film, the runtime seems to build towards the final moments when Paddington is surprised by Aunt Lucy's arrival in London. The franchise would struggle to see the same success without Aunt Lucy's active role, as her relationship with Paddington is at the very heart of the movies.

Paddington in Peru opens the door for future installments to establish new dynamics in the franchise. One of the most likely outcomes going into Paddington 4 is Aunt Lucy's relocation to London. Paddington 2 makes a conscious effort to emphasize her love for the city, and how much she'd always hoped to visit. This could signal her new life in London with Paddington and the Browns, which would certainly be an interesting enterprise. Now that she's reaching an older age, it's plausible that Aunt Lucy would want to live out her days beside Paddington.
