In Palworld, there are a lot of choices to make early on, and for beginners, this might be intimidating and a little confusing as to what to do first or what might be most important. However, several tips and tricks will make the opening hours of Palworld much more enjoyable.
From picking the right starter in Palworld to what makes the best team, there are many things to consider when exploring the world. Adventurous players will need to learn to be more patient, while the base builders will need to set out more to make their base as great as possible. However, with a little help, players will enjoy the fruits of their labors and enjoy their time exploring the world.

Palworld Dares To Do What Pokémon Won't
Pocketpair's PalWorld may emulate the Pokémon series' basic formula, but the game will do something that Pokémon titles could not pull off themselves.
10 Take Your Time Learning The Mechanics
Be Patient
Players will have to be a little patient when beginning their journey in Palworld. There’s a lot to do, and it is easy to get overambitious. That said, players should be a little patient and take their time building resources, capturing key Pals, and building up their stats at the beginning of the game. The tutorial will guide you through the steps, but don’t be afraid to take the time to set yourself up for success. This can include getting better Pals, leveling up, and investing heavily in your base.
9 Setup a Base
A Flat Area With Plenty Of Space
One of the first things you can do after building a Primitive Workbench is craft a Palbox to set up the base. This is a very important step, although players can move the base later by disassembling the Palbox. That being said, picking a good spot will be much easier. Pals might get stuck if there’s a cliff within the radius of your base. This will make them unable to work, so look for a nice, relatively flat area with lots of space to build on to make you and your Pals happier.
To disassemble something, including a Palbox, enter 'Build' mode and then choose 'Disassembly' mode. You will get your materials back.
8 Invest In Your Base First
Build a Ranch & Berry Plantation
Once the base is up and running, focus your early game on investing heavily in your base. Find Pals that will help you make the right materials, and focus on the technology investments that improve the base. This will pay off later when you have enough resources to build what you need without much extra mining. A Ranch will give you free Wool in Palworld without having to kill Lamballs for it, and a Berry Plantation will feed all your working Pals (and yourself) without any extra work on your part.
7 Get The Shield Early
Protect Yourself
Early in the Technology Tree, you will find a Common Shield option in Palworld. This should be a must-have as early as possible, as it will make exploration and capturing (or farming) Pals much easier. You will be able to take way more hits and worry less about them while focusing on capturing Pals. This will also help with boss battles and enemy bases when you come across them.

How Palworld Can Improve On Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Mistakes
Pokémon Legends: Arceus broke new ground for the series, but it's not without its mistakes. Palworld can fix them and improve on Pokémon's formula.
6 Get Pals For Base Building
Automate Building In Your Base
As you invest in your base, you will also want to capture some Pals that will be best for building up those resources and helping out around the base. Players will want a Lamball for the Ranch, a Pal with the mining trait, a Pal with the lumbering trait, and a Pal(s) who can water and plant. This will help with all of the beginning game resource building. The following early-game Pals in Palworld who are easier to capture have these traits:
Activity |
Pal |
---|---|
Mining |
Cattiva and Rushoar |
Lumbering |
Lifmunk, Tanzee, Eikthyrdeer |
Watering |
Pengullet and Teafant |
Planting |
Lifmunk, Tanzee, and Gumoss |
5 Get Pals For Fighting
Your Pals Can Fight For You
You will also want to get some Pals who can fight as well. These Pals will have some strong offensive stats and can hold their own defensively as well. Foxsparks is an easy early choice, as it can become a flamethrower, but Tanzee and Lifmunk also have early weapons available. Gumoss will be strong against the first boss fight, and a Flopie can be a good companion in early fights. It partially depends on team composition and the Pals or people you are fighting, but any of those choices should get you through the opening hours.
4 Build Storage In Key Aras
Don't Get Weighed Down
You will eventually find out that you will get easily weighed down by resources early on. Players can build Wooden Chests for storage, which Pals will also interact with, but if you set out to mine resources, you will quickly be overburdened. Putting a chest down right next to the logging, mining, and farming spots on your base will allow you to move resources over without having to move physically, but out in the wild, that’s less of an option.
So, if you are going on a material hunt in Palworld, one option is to fill your team full of Cattiva Pals, as they increase your weight-carrying output and can carry things for you. Additionally, players can increase their capacity by putting stat points into Weight, giving them an additional 50 pounds each time. Additionally, as long as a resource is in a base chest, you can craft or build with it as if it were in your hands.
3 Learn Type Advantages & Disadvantages
Catch Pals Effectively
If you want to capture Pals, you may either want to summon your Pals back or command them not to attack, as they can easily finish off the Pals you are trying to throw a Pal Sphere at. It can be easier to attack Pals yourself and then capture them. While battling Pals, pick a Pal that has a type advantage against the Pals you are trying to defeat. For those familiar with the Pokemon type advantages, they are very similar, as shown in the image above..

Biggest Differences Between Palworld & Pokémon
The new creature collector Palworld has some big differences from its apparent inspiration, Pokémon, such as its gameplay aspects and darker tone.
2 Don't Ignore The Hunger Bar
Keep Eating Food
Food is very important for you and your Pals as everything you do will consume your Hunger Bar. Once the UI starts flashing that you are hungry, it is important to eat something as soon as possible and not continue doing things. Your health will start diminishing, and you can die without realizing entirely why if you continue going without eating. A Berry Plantation or a Chikipi in a Ranch will provide food automatically so that you do not have to spend extra time gathering food.
1 Activate Fast Travel Points
Travel Long Distances
Towers will be scattered around the map of Palworld, which will also be shown on the bar at the top of the screen when they are close enough. Try to find these and activate them whenever possible, as fast travel is one of the most important elements of the game. It allows you to return to your base and the closest spot on the map if you die in the wild. This makes retrieving your stuff much easier and traveling to where you know the Pal you are looking for usually resides if needed.
