Gerald Butler's hit movies, sets a new record for the action franchise. Hulu landed the U.S. rights to Paris Has Fallen in October, with episodes debuting in December. The story centers on Vincent Taleb (played by Tewfik Jallab), a protection officer to a French Minister. The French official becomes the target of a terror group, causing Vincent to work with MI6 operative Zara (Ritu Arya) to keep the politician safe. But it's not long before a deeper conspiracy is uncovered, threatening the city of Paris itself.
Paris Has Fallen has the best Rotten Tomatoes score of any entry in the Has Fallen franchise, currently sitting at 86% based on 7 reviews. The score is likely to fluctuate as more reviews are added, though the score is relatively high with only one review leaning negative so far.
What The Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For Paris Has Fallen
TV Reviews Are A Bit Different
Consisting of eight episodes, Paris Has Fallen is written by Howard Overman. It's produced by StudioCanal, Urban Myth Films, Millennium Media, and G-BASE, with the latter two companies also being behind the Has Fallen movie franchise. The franchise, with Butler in the role of Mike Banning, consists of three entries and has collectively grossed $523 million worldwide. But the Has Fallen films, which began in 2013 with Olympus Has Fallen, has never been a favorite among critics.
The franchise is created by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt.
Directed by veteran action thriller filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, and with a ing cast that includes Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, and Angela Bassett, Olympus holds a 50% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. But the consensus acknowledges that it's elevated by Fuqua's direction and Butler's lead performance. The sequels, London Has Fallen in 2016, and Angel Has Fallen in 2019, tumbled to 28% and 39%, respectively. The audience score for the third film featured a spike in favorability, though.

It is worth noting that TV reviews, in 2024, are markedly different than movie reviews for a blockbuster in the 2010s. The movies each have roughly 200 reviews, while Paris Has Fallen will be reviewed far less. In general, in the current era, TV shows are reviewed less frequently than big movies. That is doubly true for a smaller international series. It is easier for Paris Has Fallen to get a good score based on fewer reviews. The assessments for the French spinoff underline that it's an enjoyable watch, though, with Greg MacArthur's ScreenRant review calling it “full-bodied and cinematic.”
Our Take On Paris Has Fallen
It's A Solid Watch
With the next Has Fallen sequel still in the works, Hulu's Paris Has Fallen should fill a void for general action fans. Although there is a large gap between the number of reviews for the series spinoff versus the movies, it seems to be the case that the franchise's French outing will be entertaining for viewers who are looking for a story that will skillfully hit familiar beats.
