The the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters," is how Peacemaker season 2 will fit into this franchise, after initially being created as part of the DCEU. As Peacemaker season 2 will finally tackle those questions, fans should also expect some bigger tie-ins from the DCU.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn opened up more about Peacemaker season 2's place in the DCU franchise and the familiar faces that will be seen throughout the show when it returns in August. Gunn also teased that as there are connections to "other parts of the DCU and from Superman," the DC Studios co-CEO teased a very significant cameo towards the end, as he stated the following:

You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker, and we see more about that technology in Superman. The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2... We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.

What James Gunn's DCU Comments Mean For Peacemaker Season 2

The Peacemaker season 2 trailer gives a glimpse of the DCU after the events of Gunn's Superman movie, as the Max series is bound to have reactions to whatever goes down in the summer film. From Gunn's comments about other corners of the DCU playing a role in Peacemaker season 2, it makes sense that they want to put a big emphasis on that, given how this show is carrying over from the DCEU franchise. Whether or not "other parts of the DCU" means characters from movies and TV shows that are after Peacemaker season 2 remains to be seen.

When it comes to the big cameo that Gunn is teasing, it honestly wouldn't be shocking if David Corenswet's Superman is somehow the one that makes it in for an appearance. Given how the DCU is meant to be more interconnected across TV and film, having the Man of Steel himself showing up at the end of Peacemaker season 2 would help solidify that concept, especially if John Cena's titular character is meant to have a bigger role in Gunn's reboot. In addition to that, it would also be really fun to see how Superman would respond to a character like Peacemaker.

Our Take On James Gunn's Peacemaker Season 2 Comments

John Cena in Peacemaker

From Gunn's latest comments about Peacemaker season 2, it's going to be intriguing to see what connections from the DCU timeline get addressed in the new season. If the big cameo isn't Corenswet's Superman, it would be amazing if the appearance is from a major new DCU character who makes their debut in the franchise through Peacemaker season 2. But with only a few more months to go before Peacemaker season 2 kicks off, the world will know soon enough what surprises Gunn has in store.
