James Gunn has confirmed the official release date for release window for Peacemaker season 2 was previously confirmed, although an exact date had not been given.

On X, Gunn has now revealed that Peacemaker season 2 will debut on Max as of August 21. He shared that he just finished post-production work on the season 2 premiere yesterday and that it is "one of my favorite things ever." Gunn also included footage from the season, which was included in a teaser for other HBO and Max series. The footage features John Cena's titular character giving a thumbs up, running for his life, and crashing through a window, along with Leota Adebayo (Daniell Brooks) telling him, "You're a superhero now." The confirmed release date means that fans finally know exactly when Peacemaker will return after the three-year hiatus. With the Superman movie's release slated for July 11, the DCU's first movie will only have a little over a month in theaters before the DCU's first live-action show premieres. The animated Creature Commandos, which came out in 2024, is the DCU's first show, but Peacemaker will be the new cinematic universe's first project in live-action television.

The release dates for Superman and Peacemaker season 2 ensure that summer 2025 will be rewarding for fans who have been patiently waiting years to see the DCU take shape. While I am looking forward to seeing Superman, Peacemaker season 2 is the DCU project that I have been looking forward to the most. Season 1 is one of the most surprising and emotionally satisfying superhero shows that I have ever seen, and the return of Peacemaker, Adebayo, Eagly, and the rest of the eclectic cast of characters is long overdue. I am relieved that Peacemaker season 2 finally has a release date, so I can begin counting down the days until I see Cena reprising the best role of his career.
