New reports suggest Netflix is gearing up to produce two spinoffs of the British crime drama Peaky Blinders, one featuring a new setting while another stars a familiar character. The show centers around the Peaky Blinders street gang, dramatizing their actions in England from 1919 to 1933. The series ended with season 6 in April 2022, however, there are plans for a feature-length film that will round out the main series.

Now, Peaky Blinders movie, two new spinoffs of the crime series are being produced. The first will be set in Boston decades after the original show, while the second will focus on Polly Gray, a high-ranking member of the Shelby's crime syndicate. These shows will no doubt expand on the original universe, opening the door for a wider world beyond the main series.

Will Peaky Blinders Spinoffs Work?

Peaky Blinders season 6 ended with many cliffhangers unresolved, such as Tommy Shelby's final fate and his current state of mind. This sets the stage for the feature-length film, which will no doubt end his story while opening the door for the slate of spinoffs currently being planned. It's possible the show could even lead into one of the series, such as the one set in Boston.

While it will be interesting to see the world of Peaky Blinders expand through new shows, the Shelby family is a key draw to the original, making it unclear how well the spinoffs will do. A story following Polly would no doubt be exciting, as it could develop her backstory in new, interesting ways before she died in the main series. However, it's unclear if a show set in Boston - seemingly without any Shelbys - would have the same draw for audiences.

If Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is involved, though, then even the Boston series may be engaging despite a lack of direct connection to the original. This could also open the door for other crime families and syndicates around the world to be explored, all under the umbrella of the flagship series. With plenty of details still to come, it appears the show's TV universe is only just beginning.

Netflix has not announced a release date for the Peaky Blinders spinoffs.
