Netflix's People We Meet On Vacation Adaptation Casts Hunger Games & My Lady Jane Stars In Lead Roles

Netflix's adaptation of Emily Henry's People We Meet on Vacation will star Emily Bader as Poppy and Tom Blyth as Alex.

Now, Netflix has revealed four additional stars who will Bader (My Lady Jane) and Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) in the movie. People We Meet on Vacation has officially cast Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris), and Lukas Gage (You). Their roles have not been disclosed. When commenting on the adaptation in conversation with Netflix, Henry said:

I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters. I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.

[About Bader and Blyth] I watched their chemistry read four times in 12 hours and I loved it more every single time. The very first time I was laughing out loud, and I got so emotional by the end.

What The People We Meet On Vacation Casting News Means

Netflix Is Moving Full Steam Ahead With This Adaptation

In recent years, Emily Henry has become one of the biggest authors in the rom-com genre, with her books Beach Read, Happy Place, and more receiving plenty of acclaim. Therefore, it isn't surprising that multiple adaptations of her work are in development; in addition to People We Meet on Vacation, Netflix has optioned Happy Place and plans to turn it into a series with Jennifer Lopez' production company. A Beach Read movie is also in development at 20th Century Studios.

Henry has become particularly popular on BookTok, the section of TikTok known for making certain books go viral.

People We Meet on Vacation appears to be the furthest along of all these, as it already has a cast. The movie will be directed by Brett Haley (All the Bright Places), and though it does not yet have an official release date, it could debut within the next year. Typically, casting announcements happen closer to the start of production, so the reveal of the four new stars could indicate that filming is about to begin. If this is the case, the movie could arrive on Netflix next summer, which would be the perfect time for a new rom-com.

Our Take On The People We Meet On Vacation Casting

Guessing Each Actor's Character

As previously mentioned, Netflix hasn't disclosed any of the new cast ' characters. However, as I have read the book, I can guess some of the roles they will be assuming. Jamil will likely be playing Swapna, Poppy's boss at the travel magazine she works for. Poppy's job as a travel writer is a key part of People We Meet on Vacation, and so any adaptation should include that, thus giving Jamil the opportunity to act as a mentor for Bader's character. Hook, soon to be seen in The White Lotus season 3, could be playing Alex's on-and-off girlfriend, Sarah.

Laviscount and Gage's roles are a bit harder to predict, and there's a chance they're playing new characters invented for People We Meet on Vacation. If Haley is sticking with the book, then Laviscount could play one of Poppy's boyfriends, as she has a few flings covered in the flashback portions. Laviscount already has experience playing a Netflix love interest through his Emily in Paris role, so he could be perfect for that part. As for Gage, he could play one of Alex's brothers, or he could be an eccentric character Alex and Poppy encounter on one of their trips.
