Summary

  • Director James Bobin and cinematographer Jules O'Loughlin both shared images of slates on Instagram.
  • The images revealed that production is underway on Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2.
  • Given the production timeline, season 2 probably won't premiere until early 2026.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, which adapts the second novel Sea of Monsters, features the return of Walker Scobell as Poseidon's son Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Athena's daughter Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as their satyr protector Grover Underwood.

On Instagram, director James Bobin and cinematographer Jules O'Loughlin shared images from their first day on set, revealing that production has officially begun on Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Check out their posts below:

Bobin shared a blurry image of a slate in front of what could be a pair of booted feet or potentially special effects meant to represent cloven hooves. The caption on the photo reads "Camera test. Excited to get going on this next adventure. Going to be epic."

O'Loughlin shared a clearer image of the slate, revealing that they were shooting take 1 of scene 1.4, along with a caption reading "Let’s go!!"

When Will Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Premiere?

There Will Still Be A Long Wait For More Percy Jackson

If the season's post-production schedule means that its Disney+ release similarly follows its wrap by an additional nine and a half months, the earliest the new season can be expected is mid-February 2026.

Although this production kickoff already takes place six months after the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 ending aired, this doesn't mean that the wait for the season 2 premiere is anywhere near over. Because the mythological show features many gods and monsters, it requires a great deal of special effects, so production takes slightly longer than the average live-action show and many additional post-production requirements cause significant delays. Below, see the precedent set by the production timeline of season 1:

Production Wrap

Premiere Date

June 2, 2022

February 2, 2023

December 19, 2023

If season 2 follows more or less the same production and release pattern, principal photography will take about eight months. This means that season 2 can be expected to wrap around the beginning of April 2025. If the season's post-production schedule means that its Disney+ release similarly follows its wrap by an additional nine and a half months, the earliest the new season can be expected is mid-February 2026. However, the streamer may fast-track the show to aim for another holiday season premiere date, meaning it could premiere in December 2025.

However, the wait for a possible season 3 could potentially be shorter if Disney+ plays their cards right. The young actors at the core of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast are rapidly outgrowing their roles, so the popularity of season 1 and the buzz around season 2 may give producers the confidence to quickly roll into production on the next season. This would behoove the show, as there are five books worth of story to cover before the title character's sixteenth birthday.
